About the role
Steel Traditions builds custom steel windows and doors for high-end homes. As our Final Assembly & QC Technician, you are the last set of hands and eyes before a unit leaves the shop. You stand each unit up on our QC wall and fully install it as it will go in on site, including sliders, French doors and bifolds. You glaze, seal, put on the hardware and check every part. Then you wrap, package and load it to ship. Nothing ships until you've passed it. There is room to grow into a QC Wall lead role.
What you'll do
- Review the prints and shop drawings for every unit before hanging it.
- Stand up and install finished units on the shop QC wall, including French doors, sliders and bifolds, following the manufacturer's install order.
- Glaze units by setting the glass and running silicone on both sides, then clean the units.
- Install hardware: handles, hinges, sweeps, cylinders, shoot bolts and hardware boxes. Adjust parts and make small fixes when something doesn't fit.
- Hold the line on quality: no unit ships with damage, scratches or paint defects. If it isn't right, tag it HOLD and tell the fab lead and the office the same day.
- Check every part thoroughly: function, operation, finish/color against the order, glass, seals and hardware. Fill out the QC form for every unit.
- Diagnose operation problems (binding, sag/deflection, misaligned tracks or bifold supports) and track down problems on doors and frames that won't pass, working with the fabrication lead, and log any rework and its cause.
- Make lists of missing or wrong parts and send them to the office so they get ordered.
- Wrap, package and label passed units, and help load them for delivery. Occasionally help with site service or pickups.
- Keep the QC area organized: store oversized units, lay out the floor, set up the wall and restock supplies.
- Submit The Daily every workday before leaving: units worked, hours per unit, QC result, materials needed and roadblocks. This is part of the job, not extra.
What we're looking for
- 2+ years in window/door installation, glazing, millwork, cabinet or metal fabrication, or similar hands-on assembly.
- Comfortable with hand and power tools (drills, die grinders, sanders, knives, silicone guns).
- Can read shop drawings, a tape measure to 1/16", and installation guides.
- A detail-oriented, "it's not done until it's right" attitude, and the ability to explain clearly what's wrong.
- Asks questions early and goes back to the lead whenever something is unclear.
- Reliable attendance and on-time starts. Can fill out simple phone or tablet forms every day.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Experience with steel/aluminum systems or bifolds is a plus.
Physical demands
- Standing, bending, kneeling and reaching for most of the shift.
- Lifting and moving heavy, oversized glass and steel units with a team and lifting equipment. Lifting up to 75 lbs on your own.
- Working with sealants and sanding, using provided PPE (respirator, gloves, eye protection).
- Indoor shop environment, with occasional job-site visits.
