What you can expect to be doing:
The function of the Field Survey Party Chief is to support daily operations, serve as the lead on a survey crew and instruct crew members on survey techniques including boundary, topographic, as-built surveys, and construction layout. The role requires proficiency with optical and digital instruments, GPS and data collectors. Additionally, the Survey Party Chief is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and safeguarding precision equipment, work vehicles, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies. Primary office location is Melbourne, FL and may be required to assist on projects for the Port St Lucie & Stuart offices as needed.
Responsibilities
- Field lead, training personnel in survey techniques and overseeing the daily production goals of the crew.
- Perform and supervise boundary, topographic, as-built surveys, and construction layouts while adhering to plan schedules and production standards.
- Leading complex Boundary, ALTA, Sectional, Topographic Surveys and smaller construction surveys
- Understanding ALTA Standards, client coordination
- Perform complex algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric engineering calculations to solve field problems.
- Collect, code, and prepare/enter field notes into databases using data collectors and standardized company protocols.
- Ensure all survey data and descriptions are accurate, reflecting research from deeds, maps, and physical evidence.
- Maintain, clean, and calibrate precision instruments including GPS, EDM, total stations, robots, and data collectors.
- Clear underbrush, traverse difficult terrain, and work in extreme outdoor conditions while identifying potential hazards (traffic, heavy machinery, wildlife).
- Respect property rights, follow guidelines for entering private property, and promote a culture of job safety.
- Minimize downtime by ensuring the crew is mobilized and productive immediately upon arrival at job sites.
- Training of junior staff and proper surveying techniques, equipment maintenance, and field safety.
- Maintain effective relationships with managers, staff and the public, using poise and tact when dealing with sensitive situations.
- Play a role in ensuring all projects are completed according to plan schedules, company policy, and production standards.
- Submit daily reports, change reports, and progress updates to the Survey Manager to ensure the job stays on schedule and within budget.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in both office and field settings. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Work hours are flexible and are subject to change based upon project schedules.
What you will need to succeed:
- Minimum of Five years in land survey field work and demonstrated skills is required.
- High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelors degree in Land Surveying is preferred but not required.
- Experience with modern surveying equipment is required. Trimble/Spectra surveying equipment is preferred but not required.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing. Must be fluent in English.
- Valid driver’s license & reliable transportation required.
