Shape safer surgeries from the driver’s seat

Imagine starting your morning in a mobile workshop, rolling up to a hospital in Tennessee where a set of delicate laparoscopic forceps needs fine-tuning before the first case. You inspect, repair, and restore surgical instruments so clinicians can focus on patient care. By afternoon, you’re in a hospital workroom, polishing and aligning scissors with precision. Every stop you make keeps operating rooms moving safely and on time.

    About the role

    • Entry-level pathway with paid, hands-on training—no prior instrument repair experience required.
    • Remote, customer-facing position serving facilities across Tennessee; frequent on-site work at hospitals and labs.
    • Work environments vary: mobile repair truck, repair lab, and hospital spaces; expect changing weather and frequent trips into facilities.

    What you’ll do

    • Restore and maintain surgical tools using grinding and buffing wheels, soldering, and a range of hand/power tools.
    • Perform basic to intermediate inspections and repairs with meticulous attention to detail and strong manual dexterity.
    • Operate primarily from a mobile repair truck; collaborate in a compact workspace and sit/stand for extended periods.
    • Support multiple customer locations within your territory based on service agreements and staffing needs.

    Growth, rewards, and support

    • Extensive training and development with a clear progression path within STERIS Instrument Management Services—and opportunities across STERIS.
    • Competitive pay plus a monthly incentive plan.
    • Comprehensive benefits: medical, vision, dental, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, tuition assistance, paid vacation and paid holidays.

    Qualifications

    • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on work (not necessarily instrument repair). Examples include small engine or electronics repair, assembly, testing, carpentry, circuit board work, sterile processing, industrial sewing, jewelry repair, maintenance, construction, or automotive repair.
    • Scheduling/travel: Flexible for early/late hours; occasional overnight and out-of-state travel.
    • Licensing/health: Valid driver’s license with acceptable record (CDL not required); maintain required vaccines; pass a DOT medical/physical exam and follow all DOT rules.
    • Driving: Able to operate a DOT-regulated vehicle and complete basic box-truck safety checks; must be at least 21 to satisfy FMCSA interstate driving requirements.
    • Credentialing: Meet hospital/customer credentialing standards.
