Job Description

As a Field Service Technician specializing in industrial automation, you will support the installation, startup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of custom industrial automation equipment at customer facilities across North America. This role is perfect for individuals with a strong background in maintenance, millwright work, or industrial automation who thrive in hands-on environments and enjoy travel and problem-solving.

Travel 50-60%

• Primarily U.S. travel - 1 internationally trip/year
• Typical trips are Mon. - Fri. with weekends at home
• Company CC for all travel expenses: hotel, flights, cars, gas, meals
• $130/day travel premium

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, troubleshoot, and repair industrial automation equipment
• mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting and repair
• Perform preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, and service calls
• Support equipment startups, testing, and commissioning activities
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation
• Train customers on equipment operation and maintenance
• Complete detailed service reports and communicate findings with customers and internal teams

Essential Skills

• 8+ years of field service or technician experience with industrial automation equipment
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• background in industrial maintenance, millwright work, field service, machine building, or similar hands-on environments.
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting and modifying PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley preferred).
• Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment in the field.
• Familiarity with HMI systems and industrial controls.
• Exposure to commissioning and startup activities.
• background in supervising installations.

Work Environment

You will be part of a growing team of service technicians, expanding from three to five members.

The position requires 40-hour workweeks when local and 60-70 hours while traveling, with additional overtime opportunities available.

Limited international travel is required, with occasional trips to Canada, Mexico, and overseas destinations such as Japan or Australia.

All travel expenses are covered, and employees keep all airline, hotel, and travel reward points earned.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belding, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
