    Description

    Batch Plant Maintenance & Diagnostics

    • Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and service ready-mix concrete batch plant machinery, including motors, hydraulic and pneumatic valves, conveyors, weigh batchers, charging chutes, and twin-shaft mixers.
    • Service and maintain plant support systems: silos and aeration, central dust collectors, water heaters, gray water reclaim and recycling, process water piping, and steam generators for cold-weather operation.
    • Resolve mechanical, electrical (12/24V DC and standard industrial), and pneumatic faults to minimize production downtime.
    • Calibrate and verify scales, load cells, and metering systems in coordination with QA/QC and certified scale technicians.

    Mixer Truck Fleet Service

    • Diagnose, repair, and service the Sunmat mixer truck fleet, including mixer drums, charging hoppers, chutes, water systems, hydraulic drives, and pneumatic controls.
    • Service powertrain, brake, air brake, fuel, and engine systems on mixer trucks; perform fluid and filter service to OEM intervals.
    • Coordinate with the Lead Driver and dispatch on truck rotation through the maintenance bay to minimize impact on placements.
    • Make warranty recommendations and coordinate dealer service for major repairs and warranty work.

    Electrical Testing & Controls Support

    • Perform AC/DC electric motor diagnostics, rebuilds, and installations on generators, pumps, and rotating equipment.
    • Execute electrical testing, mechanical inspections, and controlled equipment disassembly using precision tools, hand tools, welders, and cutting torches in compliance with manufacturer specifications.
    • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and computer-based batch control systems.
    • Coordinate with licensed electricians and the controls technician on PLC issues, panel work, and complex faults outside the scope of this role.

    Equipment Installation & Commissioning

    • Install new concrete production equipment, components, and modifications in support of plant ramp-up and ongoing improvements.
    • Support commissioning, trial-batch readiness, and start-up activities at the Micron ID2 facility.
    • Document installation activities and as-built configurations for the maintenance and reliability record.

    DOT Compliance & Documentation

    • Complete federally required DOT annual truck and trailer inspections; maintain accurate documentation per FMCSR 396.19 standards.
    • Hold and maintain air brake inspection certification per FMCSR 396.25.
    • Complete all assigned web-based and DOT-required training, including TRAIN test evaluation.
    • Maintain accurate records of work orders, parts consumption, service hours, and equipment runtime in the CMMS or paper-based system as directed.

    Communication & Operator Interface

    • Interface with batch plant operators and mixer truck drivers to troubleshoot operational issues.
    • Communicate equipment status, repair recommendations, and scope of work clearly and professionally to the Batch Plant Manager, Lead Mechanic, and other supervisors.
    • Contribute to reliability improvement: identify recurring failures, suggest design or procedural changes, and support root-cause analysis.

    Tools, Housekeeping & Compliance

    • Own and maintain a personal tool inventory appropriate to a journeyman field service role.
    • Maintain company equipment and the maintenance shop in a clean, safe, and orderly condition; adhere to all HAZMAT, contamination control, and housekeeping policies.
    • Promote Sunmat core principles and a collaborative, safety-first work culture.
    • Maintain availability for flexible scheduling, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and emergency repairs based on production demand.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Safety

    • Work to a zero-incident safety standard; never bypass guards, lockout-tagout, or confined space requirements.
    • Complete daily Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) before starting work.
    • Apply lockout-tagout (LOTO), fall protection, hot work permits, and confined space entry procedures every time, without exception.
    • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
    • Champion the Sunmat / Suntec ESOP culture and the 2026 Year of Discipline and Accountability theme on every shift.

    Required

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Five (5)+ years of field service or mechanical repair experience in aggregate, ready-mix concrete, construction, or manufacturing environments.
    • Strong understanding of electromechanical systems, batch plant controls, and industrial motor components.
    • Proficiency across hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, brake, air brake, powertrain, diesel, and gas engine systems.
    • Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics; competent with electronic diagnostic tools, scanning equipment, and computer-based control systems.
    • Valid driver's license required.
    • Effective English communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to work independently, prioritize under pressure, and collaborate with operators, drivers, and cross-functional teams.
    • Dependable self-starter with sound field judgment; must adhere to company safety policies, grooming standards, and professional conduct expectations.
    • Ability to pass background and drug screening, including any Micron site-access requirements.

    Preferred

    • Technical training in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair, or electrical systems.
    • Direct experience with Erie Strayer or comparable central-mix concrete batch plants.
    • Direct experience servicing concrete mixer truck fleets, including drum, chute, and hydraulic drive systems.
    • CDL-A (or ability to obtain); air brake inspection certification per FMCSR 396.25; ability to complete annual commercial vehicle certifications per FMCSR 396.19 and TRAIN test evaluation.
    • Confined space entry and rescue training; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30; LOTO certification; powered industrial truck (forklift) certification; aerial / scissor lift certification.
    • CMMS experience for work order and PM tracking.

    Bilingual English / Spanish

    The Field Service Technician - Batch Plant is responsible for the maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and installation of ready-mix concrete batch plant machinery and mixer truck fleet equipment at Sunmat's Micron ID2 operation in Boise, Idaho.
