We are seeking a Field Safety Technician for assignment in Washington, DC. The selected candidate will conduct routine and comprehensive inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements and project-specific safety plans.
Hours are Monday - Thursday, 7:30pm - 6:00am
** This is a Night Shift position **
Responsibilities
- Monitor contractor adherence to approved Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Safe Work Plans
- Verify implementation of required protective measures and safe work practices
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented
- Stop work when imminent danger situations are identified
- Perform daily safety walkthroughs of active construction work areas
- Conduct documented safety audits of contractors, subcontractors, equipment and work operations
- Monitor excavation activities, fall protection systems, crane and rigging operations, confined space entry, electrical work and work zone safety
- Review housekeeping, material storage, access control and site logistics for compliance with established standards
- Track and verify closure of safety observations and corrective actions
- Incident prevention and investigation
- Participate in investigations involving incidents, near misses, property damage events and safety concerns
- Collect documentation, photographs, witness statements and other supporting information
- Assist project leadership in identifying root causes and corrective actions
- Monitor implementation of preventive measures to reduce recurrence
- Review contractor safety documentation and daily pre-task plans
- Participate in safety orientations, toolbox talks and pre-shift briefings
- Verify contractor personnel maintain required training and certifications
- Support contractor safety performance evaluations and compliance initiatives
- Monitor high-risk activities commonly scheduled during nighttime operations, including roadway closures, utility work, structural repairs, maintenance of traffic and equipment-intensive work
- Ensure adequate lighting, visibility, traffic control measures and site security are maintained throughout the shift
- Coordinate closely with project management and contractor supervision regarding changing site conditions and emerging risks
- Verify public safety measures are maintained during night operations
- Documentation and reporting
- Prepare daily safety reports documenting observations, inspections, audits, incidents and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate records of safety meetings, inspections, training verification and compliance activities
- Track project safety metrics and trends
- Develop field reports and communicate findings to project leadership and client representatives
- Promote a proactive safety culture through mentoring, coaching and engagement with project personnel
- Lead or participate in safety stand-downs, awareness campaigns and special emphasis programs
- Encourage continuous improvement through observation and feedback programs
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- A valid Drivers License
- 10+ years construction safety experience, including field safety inspection and compliance oversight
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926)
- Experience supporting large construction, infrastructure, utility, transportation, industrial or facility projects
- Demonstrated ability to identify risks and implement effective mitigation measures
- Experience conducting safety audits, investigations and compliance inspections
- Experience managing construction safety activities within occupied facilities or active transportation corridors is highly preferred
- OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CHST, CSP, ASP, CSHO or equivalent safety certification is a plus
