Travel: DFW & Austin jobsites; equipment yard as needed

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Field Equipment Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy construction equipment, commercial vehicles, trailers, and support machinery at active jobsites. The mechanic will respond to breakdowns, determine field repair requirements, and return equipment to service with minimal project disruption.


Key Responsibilities

•  Travel to jobsites to inspect and repair disabled or malfunctioning equipment. 
•  Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, brake, steering, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and drivetrain issues. 
•  Perform preventive maintenance and field repairs on: 
  •  Excavators 
  •  Dozers 
  •  Loaders 
  •  Graders 
  •  Skid steers 
  •  Cranes 
  •  Dump trucks 
  •  Service trucks 
  •  Trailers 
  •  Light-duty vehicles 
•  Use diagnostic tools, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, service manuals, and parts diagrams. 
•  Determine whether repairs can be completed safely in the field or require shop/dealer support. 
•  Perform oil/filter changes, lubrication, fluid service, belt/hose replacement, battery service, and tire/track inspections. 
•  Replace and repair mechanical and hydraulic components. 
•  Complete operational checks before returning equipment to service. 
•  Identify leaks, wear, damage, and safety concerns. 
•  Document repairs, labor hours, parts, fluids, findings, and equipment status in the work-order system. 
•  Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and service vehicles. 
•  Follow OSHA, DOT, EPA, LOTO, PPE, lifting/blocking, and jobsite safety requirements. 
•  Communicate with operators, supervisors, dispatch, shop personnel, parts teams, and vendors. 
•  Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and serious equipment defects. 
•  Participate in required safety meetings and training. 

Required Qualifications

•  High school diploma or GED. 
• 5+ years of hands-on field/mobile mechanic experience.
•  Experience repairing heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, or comparable machinery. 
•  Strong knowledge of: 
  •  Diesel Engines 
  •  Hydraulic Systems 
  •  Electrical Systems 
  •  Brakes & Steering 
  •  Cooling Systems 
  •  Powertrains/Drivetrains 
•  Ability to independently diagnose and complete field repairs. 
•  Proficiency with mechanic tools and portable diagnostic equipment. 
•  Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, parts diagrams, and service information. 
•  Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. 
•  Ability to travel daily to multiple jobsites. 
•  Ability to work overtime, weekends, and occasional after-hours emergency calls. 
•  Strong communication and time-management skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

•  Technical school certificate in diesel, automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance. 
•  ASE certifications. 
•  CDL. 
•  OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification. 
•  OEM/dealer equipment training. 
•  Welding certification. 
•  Mobile A/C certification.

Physical & Working Conditions

•  Primarily work at active construction jobsites, service vehicles, equipment yards, and occasional shops. 
•  Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in awkward positions. 
•  Regular exposure to weather, dust, mud, noise, vibration, oils, fuels, moving equipment, and uneven terrain. 
•  Must be able to safely work around active machinery and wear required PPE. 
•  Must be able to handle tools, parts, and materials according to company policy and applicable law.

Additional Information
