Title: Field Engineer - Power and Automation Systems
Location: Chicago, IL
Pay Rate: $90,000-100,000 + site pay (~$125,000 total compensation)
Employment Type: Full-Time Direct Hire
Comprehensive Benefits Program including 5 weeks PTO, matching 401k, and 11 holidays
Must be able to travel 50% to client sites

Take your electrical or controls engineering career into the field with an opportunity to commission sophisticated power and automation systems at industrial facilities around the world. This role combines engineering, troubleshooting, system integration, commissioning, and direct customer interaction—giving you the opportunity to see complex systems move from installation through successful startup.  You’ll work with AC/DC drive systems, control software, power electronics, rotating machinery, and complex control systems, while partnering with engineering teams, clients, suppliers, and field service personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical advisory and field engineering services supporting equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Commission AC and DC drive systems and control software to meet design and performance requirements.
  • Tune closed-loop regulators to optimize equipment performance and meet design parameters.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex process and application problems involving industrial control systems.
  • Design, configure, and test system hardware and software when assigned.
  • Gather and evaluate technical information to determine project requirements within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Lead assigned portions of client witness system acceptance testing.
  • Provide accurate commissioning status updates and communicate project progress to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Recommend improvements to commissioning procedures, equipment performance, software, and hardware.
  • Support engineering teams with recommendations for system and product improvements.
  • Perform system integration, testing, debugging, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Maintain required safety qualifications and follow company and client safety requirements.
  • Coach and support associates in areas of technical expertise.
  • Train client personnel on system maintenance and operation to maximize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience commissioning power distribution, power electronic, and/or rotating machine products.
  • Ability to travel 50% and work independently in field environments while maintaining strong communication with project and engineering teams.
