Job Details

The Field Engineer is the technical expert for our oil, gas, and chemical customers across North Dakota. You'll partner with our sales team to find and win opportunities, design fluid system solutions, and support customers from first conversation through delivery. Roughly half the role is engineering, a quarter is in the field with customers, and a quarter is customer training and inventory management programs.

What You'll Do

• Serve on our oil, gas, and chemical market team, building deep knowledge of customer applications, needs, and industry trends.
• Work alongside sales on customer calls, recommend application-specific solutions, and support every stage of the sales cycle.
• Lead customer projects from concept to completion, including P&ID development, component selection, and confirming form, fit, and function.
• Lead onsite service work across the state, spotting system improvement opportunities and delivering technical value in the field.
• Help customers with inventory programs, including component selection and stocking.
• Deliver technical presentations and hands-on training to customers and prospects.
• Contribute to market team sales strategy, using application knowledge to shape planning and uncover new business.
• Provide technical support, product guidance, and troubleshooting to customer service, sales, and customers.
• Review technical documents, drawings, and fabrication requirements to confirm solutions meet specifications.
• Manage several projects at once, collaborate on project handoffs, and review teammates' work.
• Earn and maintain a manufacturer-backed field engineering certification.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical preferred, other disciplines considered).
• 4–7 years of experience in project, manufacturing, production, or similar engineering roles preferred; strong candidates with 2+ years experience and degree considered.
• Oil, gas, or chemical industry experience (required).
• Customer-facing experience in sales, service, technical support, or field engineering strongly preferred.
• Technical support and fabrication experience preferred.
• Self-starter who works independently from a small satellite office.
• Strong communication; able to build credibility with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Natural problem solver with curiosity, analytical thinking, and strong organization.
• CAD/SolidWorks a plus.

Job Details

• Location: Williston, ND preferred; open to Bismarck or elsewhere in ND for the right person (work remote in North Dakota (if not local) and travel 1-2 days per week to customer sites)
• Travel: Statewide, about 1.5–2 days per week; roughly 4 weeks of overnights per year (low overnight travel), including 1–2 trips to company headquarters
• Commission: $12,000 target plus company profit sharing eligibility
• Allowances: $700/month vehicle (4-door, 10 years old or newer, good condition, insurance minimums apply), $100/month phone, company card for work fuel and meals away from home
