Qualifications and Details about the Position

Broad Function

Perform estimating and field engineering functions in support of electrical and instrumentation projects, including planning, scheduling, coordination, procurement support, and execution from initial scope development through project completion.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend job walks.
  • Ensure personnel and process safety concepts are incorporated into estimates and schedules (e.g., energy isolations, lockout/tagout, etc.).
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs, material takeoffs, and cost estimates.
  • Assist the Project Team with submittals, cost reporting, status reporting, and project documentation.
  • Assist with change order development, pricing, and estimating.
  • Research construction issues and recommend potential solutions. This may include preparing and submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) as directed by the Project Manager, Project Superintendent, or Supervisor.
  • Assist with quantity tracking and reporting of Schultz self-performed and subcontractor work.
  • Assist with document control, including the development of work packages, test packages, and distribution of project documents to supervisors and subcontractors. Maintain IFC drawings and related project documents with the latest revisions and as-built information. Ensure periodic field audits are conducted to verify the most current revisions are being used.
  • Prepare written procedures for special work plans.
  • Maintain the RFI log.
  • Attend and document project meetings.
  • Procure materials, coordinate deliveries, and perform expediting functions.
  • Assist with the preparation and control of turnover packages and work with the client to ensure a smooth turnover of completed systems.
  • Assist with project cost and schedule control, including updating project schedules with accurate progress and forecast information.

Experience and Requirements

  • Five (5) years of estimating, field engineering, or related industrial construction experience preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Electrician experience preferred.

  • Ability to perform effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, perform field verification of existing facilities as needed, and communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Working knowledge of basic scheduling theory, including work breakdown structures, resource loading, logic development, and baselining.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70/NEC requirements.
  • Ability to plan job tasks to support project execution.
  • Basic understanding of construction techniques, terminology, and processes related to petrochemical, power, and industrial projects.
  • Basic understanding of QA/QC processes and procedures related to electrical and instrumentation work.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical drawings, design documents, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, project needs, and work environments.
  • Basic knowledge of construction equipment and construction processes.
  • Basic knowledge of project controls, including scope development, estimating, scheduling, cost reporting, forecasting, and change management.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement processes and procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional walking in the field over uneven terrain, including some climbing and limited work at heights to assess work scopes and monitor project progress.
  • Must be able to work overtime and all shifts, including up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, for extended durations as project needs require.

Travel Requirements

  • Limited travel for site visits and project meetings.
