We are seeking a Field Computer Technician to provide hands-on laptop and desktop repair services throughout the Lakewood, NJ area and surrounding communities. This is a great opportunity for someone with practical computer repair experience who enjoys working independently, being out in the field, and solving different hardware problems each day.

Technicians receive assigned service calls and travel directly to customer locations to diagnose and repair computers. Typical repairs include replacing motherboards, LCD screens, hard drives, keyboards, and other PC components and peripherals.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to customer locations throughout the assigned service area to complete laptop and desktop repairs.
  • Diagnose hardware issues and complete appropriate break/fix repairs.
  • Replace motherboards, LCD screens, hard drives, keyboards, and other computer components.
  • Perform whole-unit swaps and replace or repair PC peripherals when needed.
  • Troubleshoot basic laptop and desktop hardware and software issues.
  • Follow established repair procedures and product guidelines.
  • Communicate professionally with customers while onsite.
  • Update service tickets in real time using a company-provided phone.
  • Accurately document repairs, time, location, and completed service activities.
  • Complete assigned service calls efficiently while maintaining quality and customer-service standards.
  • Travel throughout the metro and surrounding areas as service needs require.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 1 year of hands-on laptop and desktop break/fix experience.
  • Hands-on experience replacing computer hardware components.
  • Experience diagnosing laptop and desktop hardware issues.
  • Previous motherboard and LCD replacement experience.
  • General understanding of laptop and desktop hardware and software.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Computer-building experience is a plus.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing a daily schedule of service calls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good customer-service and communication skills.
  • Comfortable completing real-time electronic documentation for each service call.
  • Ability to complete required product and technical training.

Transportation Requirements

This is a mobile field position, so reliable transportation is essential.

  • Must have your own reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
  • Must be comfortable driving throughout Lakewood and surrounding areas.
  • Approximately 250–350 miles of driving per week may be required.
  • Mileage traveled between work locations during the workday is reimbursed according to the standard mileage policy.
  • Normal commuting mileage to and from work is not reimbursed.
  • Candidates should have a reliable backup transportation plan in the event their primary vehicle is unavailable.

Certification & Training

Dell certification is required for this position. Candidates selected to move forward will complete the required Dell product certifications prior to beginning work. The certifications are provided at no cost to the candidate and can be completed online from home.

CompTIA A+ certification is also required. Candidates who do not currently hold A+ certification will be required to obtain it within 90 days of starting employment.

Candidates must also successfully complete required product training and applicable background and drug screening requirements.

Additional Requirements

  • Reliable computer and high-speed internet connection at home.
  • Access to a working home printer.
  • Willingness to occasionally work beyond the scheduled shift when service needs require.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 2–3 hours when necessary to provide customer service.
  • Comfortable working independently at customer locations.
  • Willingness to follow established business-casual dress requirements.
  • Ability to complete administrative tasks and service-ticket documentation through a mobile device.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a dependable, hands-on computer technician who enjoys troubleshooting and repairing hardware rather than sitting at a desk all day. They are comfortable replacing components, working independently, driving to customer locations, and interacting professionally with customers.

This opportunity could be particularly appealing to someone with experience in computer repair shops, help desk/hardware support, PC building, electronics repair, field service, Geek Squad-style repair environments, or desktop support who wants to gain additional field experience and Dell certifications.
