Position: Canvasser
Part Time / Full Time - Temporary Assignment
Hiring Begins: 9/14/2026
About Texas Campaign for the Environment (TCE):
TCE's mission is to empower Texans to fight pollution through sustained grassroots organizing campaigns that shift corporate and governmental environmental policy. TCE, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, acts as a hub for climate justice work in Texas and beyond, directly influencing public policy through community-based lobbying. This organization leads local, statewide and national issue campaigns to fight pollution, especially fossil fuel and petrochemical facilities that harm communities and worsen climate and other pollution impacts.
TCE is part of an international movement to stop a tidal wave of proposed petrochemical and fossil fuel exports facilities along the Gulf Coast. These facilities, if built, would have dire consequences on local air pollution and climate change and would largely benefit major energy company shareholders and executives while forcing ordinary Texans to pay higher prices.
About the role and Fair Water Amendment (Proposition B):
Corpus Christi is in a long-term drought, but City Hall gives the biggest water users a pass on paying and doing their fair share. For nearly a decade, large industrial water users have been allowed to pay a modest "exemption fee" to avoid responsibility for much-larger drought surcharges and to forgo participating in some conservation efforts, even during severe drought stages. That means residents, small businesses, schools, and hospitals must conserve water and may face fines or surcharges during drought conditions, while big industrial users, companies like ExxonMobil, Valero and Citgo, can opt out of their obligations.
We are seeking motivated and community-minded Door-to-Door Canvassers for a temporary assignment to engage registered voters across Corpus Christi about the Fair Water Amendment (Proposition B). Canvassers will go door-to-door in targeted neighborhoods, speak directly with registered voters, provide accurate information about Proposition B, and conduct voter surveys to understand levels of support, opposition, and voter engagement around the amendment. This is a people-focused position for individuals who enjoy connecting with their community and are comfortable having conversations with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
If approved by voters this November, the Proposition B will:
The Fair Water Amendment would not raise water rates for residents or small businesses, and does not mandate drought surcharges for anyone other than large industrial users!
Compensation and Position Details
The position starts at $20/hour, with opportunities to earn additional compensation through the campaign's bonus structure:
Expected Time Commitment: 15-30 hours per week
This is a temporary work assignment that will end on election day, November 3, 2026. Because this position is considered temporary, 90 days or less in duration, it is ineligible to be included in the collective bargaining unit of the Texas Environmental Workers Union (TEWU).
