    POSITION OVERVIEW

    UNICON International is seeking an experienced Fiber Technician to support a large-scale, mission-critical data center connectivity project. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on technician with established experience in fiber-optic infrastructure, structured cabling, fiber testing, connectivity verification, circuit auditing, and troubleshooting.

    The Fiber Technician will independently perform fiber installation, testing, troubleshooting, and connectivity activities while working collaboratively with project teams to ensure installations meet required safety, quality, and documentation standards.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

    • Install, pull, route, dress, organize, and label fiber-optic and copper cabling
    • Perform fiber termination and splicing activities
    • Perform fiber testing and end-to-end connectivity verification
    • Conduct circuit auditing and validation against port maps and project documentation
    • Clean and inspect fiber connectors
    • Utilize OTDR, optical power meters/light sources, VFLs, fiber scopes, and related testing equipment
    • Interpret testing results and troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity issues
    • Identify contamination, excessive loss, damaged connectors, breaks, incorrect routing, polarity issues, and other fiber faults
    • Trace cables and verify connections against port maps, drawings, and cable schedules
    • Correct identified connectivity issues and retest fiber connections
    • Support rack, patch-panel, pathway, and cable-management activities
    • Work with single-mode and multi-mode fiber
    • Read and interpret drawings, fiber plans, cable schedules, port maps, and work instructions
    • Document testing results, corrective actions, and completed work accurately
    • Follow all safety, PPE, ESD, quality, and site requirements

    WHAT'S NEEDED

    • 3.5–9 years of relevant experience
    • 3-9 years working directly in a Data Center environment
    • Demonstrated hands-on experience with fiber optics, telecommunications, structured cabling, or data center infrastructure
    • Fiber installation, termination, and/or splicing experience
    • Hands-on fiber testing and troubleshooting experience
    • Experience using OTDR, optical power meters/light sources, VFLs, fiber scopes, or comparable testing equipment
    • Experience performing connectivity verification and/or circuit auditing
    • Knowledge of single-mode and multi-mode fiber
    • Structured cabling and/or ISP/OSP experience
    • Ability to independently identify and troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity issues
    • Ability to read port maps, drawings, fiber plans, and technical documentation
    • Strong attention to safety, quality, and documentation
    • Data center, telecommunications, carrier, or mission-critical infrastructure experience preferred
    • Steel-toed safety boots are required on the first day of employment and must be worn in accordance with site safety requirements.
