    Group Fitness Instructor certification is not required in order to apply. If you have a certification, please make sure to list it in your resume.

    As a condition of hire, you must attend and pass an 8 week AFFA Group Fitness Instructor Course and Certification. This course is being offered in person. There are no additional costs to take this course. 

    If you are not able to pass the in-person skills tests interview and attend this course, then you cannot be hired. 

    PAY RATE: $13.50

    Summary of Responsibilities:

    The Group Fitness Instructor position is for students interested in gaining knowledge in fitness and wellness through group classes and instruction. This is a great position for group fitness instructors to gather hands-on experience by providing participants with guidance in physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Furthermore, students will engage, educate and empower members on additional fitness and well-being topics during classes, workshops and events.

    Primary Duties:

    • Instruct and lead group fitness classes in a safe, welcoming, motivating and engaging environment
    • Educate and reinforce proper exercise form and technique for participants
    • Promote knowledge of proper group fitness concepts, i.e.: warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
    • Offer a variety of exercise modifications to accommodate all fitness levels
    • Monitor and assist participants with check in of group fitness classes
    • Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's)
    • Provide excellent customer service to all participants
    • Attend the in house on-boarding classes, shadow shifts, and mentorship program
    • Instruct multiple formats or multiple specialty group fitness certifications
    • Perform other duties assigned

    Department Responsibilities:

    • Provide exceptional customer service by welcoming and assisting Campus Recreation participants, answering questions accurately and professionally, addressing concerns in a courteous manner, and creating a positive, engaging environment for all patrons and participants
    • Market Campus Recreation and area events
    • Demonstrate a commitment to providing an environment where people feel welcomed, valued, supported, and respected as they work to pursue their academic and professional goals
    • Act as a first responder in emergency situations
    • Attend all department and area trainings and meetings as assigned
    • Must possess a current American Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid certification provided by the department at no cost
    • Keep up to date on all TrainTraq assignments
    • Be prepared to encounter and respond to various hazards, with training provided to ensure safety and proper handling of potential risks
    • Maintain a standard of conduct while participating in Campus Rec activities or facilities, serving as a role model for other patrons by adhering to all safety, behavior, and policies
    • Assists with department events and programming as needed
    • Work early morning, night and weekend hours as needed

    Minimum Qualifications for Consideration:

    • Must possess or obtain before teaching a nationally recognized group fitness instructor certification or specialty group fitness certification (ACE, NCCA, Zumba, Yoga, NETA, SCW or other Specialization)
    • Condition of employment - must obtain certification by a certain date and must maintain current Group Fitness Certification
    • Ability to move 50lbs or more as required by job duties

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Prior participation in a group fitness classes

    Certifications - Obtaining additional fitness certifications will result in a higher hourly pay rate due to the nature of training and knowledge

    • Two certifications - $14.00
    • Three or more certifications - $14.50
