POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is located in Gallatin City-County Health Department and performs duties that support the vision, mission and goals of the Department. This position is responsible for providing evidenced-based home visiting services within the City-County Health Department to promote and maintain individual, group, and community health. This position's duties will include a heavy emphasis on home visits for high-risk families to: assess health issues; monitor growth and development of infants and children; monitor clients and develop plans of care; and complete required documentation. This position is responsible for implementing fatherhood programming, services and referrals for the Healthy Gallatin Home Visiting Program. With the overarching goal to improve child and family well-being, the Father Engagement Specialist will work actively to engage fathers in activities that will contribute to improved life changes for their children and their own self-sufficiency. Works with community health care professionals, families, partner organizations, and others to ensure overall well-being of clients; develops treatment plans and provides referrals to community resources; and represents fathers as an advocate with other social service agencies. Prepares various reports and provides presentations. Reviews caseloads and statistics to assess program success and determine how to improve health care to high-risk families. Work requires home visits to high-risk families that may involve contentious situations and exposure to the risk of contagious diseases. Other duties may include work in a variety of disease prevention and health promotion programs, as well as outreach to the public and contributing to departmental response to public health emergencies. This position reports to the Maternal Child Health Services Group Manager, and the Maternal Child Health Nurse Supervisor and does not supervise other County personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS
This work requires knowledge of: the principles and practices, theories and concepts of the field of social work, human behavior and child development, mental health, available community resources and services, program management; record keeping and understand the philosophy of family support. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of parenting education; crisis intervention strategies; group facilitation; education methods and techniques and the working knowledge of healthy parent child interaction and child development and be able to demonstrate skill in utilizing this knowledge. This person must have good problem-solving skills; be able to make independent determinations and have the ability to recognize the need for professional intervention; make appropriate recommendations to the team and work as part of a team. In addition to be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, basic computer skills are also needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Social Services, or a related field, and two (2) years of job-related work experience.
This position must possess a valid driver's license, provide own transportation to conduct out of office job duties (mileage reimbursement provided under the County policy), and to be insurable under the County's liability policies.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Work is performed in a wide variety of settings with clients and patients. Conducting home visits requires travel in inclement weather. Contact with the public in health care situations requires the incumbent to exercise universal precautions to prevent or minimize exposure to illness and disease. This position requires the incumbent to make home visits, often to individuals and families who are under stress, mentally ill, or would be considered high-risk for other psychosocial reasons. At times the incumbent would be required to handle contentious situations or angry public in a professional manner. The work requires moderate physical effort or exertion when carrying equipment or educational materials.
