DIHFS operates a patient-centered clinic and community programs grounded in respect, integrity, and cultural awareness while adhering to applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including the Indian Preference Act. Position Summary (Purpose of the Role) Provide the full scope of primary care services which fall under his/her field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance to patients. In addition, a Primary Care Physician is a member of the Denver Indian Health & Family Service team, individuals are expected to be familiar with DIHFS mission, goals and objectives and work collaboratively to achieve patient centered medical home services. Family Practice Physician shall provide comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages, from children through older adults. The physician diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions, provides preventive care, and coordinates specialty services when needed. Duties: • Obtain and conduct comprehensive physical examinations and medical assessments. • Provide health education, including health promotion and disease prevention (HP/DP) education. • Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic medical conditions. • Perform minor surgical procedures or assist with appropriate office-based procedures. • Develop individualized treatment and care plans. • Review incoming reports sign, date, and follow-up in a timely manner. Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostic studies. • Prescribe medications and monitor treatment effectiveness. • Provide preventive care, including health screenings, vaccinations, and wellness counseling. • Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular disease. • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, lifestyle changes, and preventive health. • Refer patients to specialists for patients requiring services not offered at DIHFS when appropriate and coordinate ongoing care. • Collaborate with nurses, medical assistants, specialists, and other healthcare professionals. • Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings. • Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as needed. • Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs in the DIHFS service area as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Provides clinical supervision and mentorship to medical students, residents, nurse practitioner students, physician assistant students, and other healthcare trainees assigned by the Medical Director. • Serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, medical assistants, and other clinical personnel regarding patient care matters. • Supports professional development and clinical learning opportunities within the organization. Exercises independent medical judgment and decision-making consistent with Colorado medical practice statutes, applicable federal and state regulations, Family Medicine professional standards, evidence-based clinical guidelines, credentialing requirements, and DIHFS policies. Qualifications: Candidates must possess a current and unrestricted Colorado medical license as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Family Medicine is required. Candidates must maintain active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. All credentials must be current and in good standing. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school is required. Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency Program is required. Preferred qualifications: minimum of two years of family practice or primary care experience, experience caring for patients across the lifespan, and experience working in community health centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Indian Health Service facilities, Tribal Health Programs, or other underserved healthcare settings. Demonstrates expertise in family medicine, preventive care, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions, population health management, and evidence-based clinical practice. Possesses advanced clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, patient education, and relationship-building abilities. Provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care while supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, quality improvement, patient safety, and organizational excellence. Proficient in electronic health record systems and healthcare technology. Works under the general direction of the Chief Medical Officer and exercises independent professional judgment in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing, care coordination, referrals, preventive care, and patient education within the scope of licensure and organizational policies. • Standard business hours with flexibility based on organizational needs. • Occasional evening, weekend, on-call, and community outreach activities may be required. • Valid Colorado driver''s license. • Reliable transportation and proof of liability insurance. • Successful completion of background screening, credential verification, and privileging requirements. • Compliance with all DIHFS policies, procedures, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.
