Job DescriptionDavis Behavioral Health is seeking a full-time Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) to join the Children, Youth, and Families Mental Health team. The Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) works closely with families who have children and adolescents with complex mental health needs. They offer hope, guidance, advocacy, and camaraderie for parents and caregivers of children and youth receiving services from mental health, substance use, and related services systems. They bring expertise based on their own experience parenting a child or youth with social, emotional, behavioral, or substance use challenges, as well as specialized training, to support other parents and caregivers. Peer support is provided through face-to-face support groups, phone calls, or individual meetings. This schedule may require three evenings per week. DBH reserves the right to require overtime, weekend work, and/or assignment to evening or night shifts, depending upon operational need, some in and out of state travel may be required.The proposed schedule for this position is:Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pmWork schedules at DBH are established to meet the needs of our clients and the agency. Program Supervisors, with the approval of Program Directors, determine the specific schedules for their assigned departments and have the authority to ask employees to work a different shift and/or in a different location on a short-term or permanent basis to meet the departments' needs.Required QualificationsExperienceExperience working with youth/young adults and families is strongly preferred. The FPSS certification requires that an individual be a parent or other family member of a child or youth who has struggled with a serious emotional disturbance and has received mental health and/or substance use treatment and support services. Candidates who do not have lived experiences as a primary caregiver actively involved in raising a child who experiences emotional, behavioral, mental health and/or substance use challenges will not be considered.Experience navigating child-serving systems in the community.EducationHigh school diploma or GED is required.Current licensure in the state of Utah as an SSW preferred.Certification/LicensureThe successful candidate must be certified as a Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) by the Office of Substance Use and Mental Health. Certification as a FPSS must be completed as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after hire.The successful candidate must also complete certification as a Behavioral Health Case Manager (BHCM) with the Utah Department of Health and Human services within the first 30 days of employment. Complete behavior management training (Welle) within 30 days of employment.Complete all required training that is assigned to the Family Peer Support Specialist position by defined deadlines.Skills/Abilities/QualificationsQualificationsMust be at least 18 years old.All employees at DBH must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check as well as a pre-employment drug screening. Since Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants the company and its employees must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.The employee must be able to drive and must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record to be covered by DBH insurance.Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of community resources.Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage families.General understanding of mental illness and substance use disorders.Good organizational and practice management skills.Ability to utilize own lived experience while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.Ability to work independently and effectively.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and community agencies (such as DCFS, schools, juvenile courts, etc.).Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including evenings and weekends.Ability to work in environments where exposure to unpredictable or emotionally charged situations may occur while maintaining professional composure and situational awareness. Spanish-speaking is highly desirable.Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a combination of office-based, school and other community-based settings. Services may be delivered in outpatient clinics, client homes, schools and other community locations as clinically indicated. This role requires flexibility in scheduling to meet client and program needs and may include travel within the county.
