    Description

Family Law Paralegal / Legal Assistant

Join a respected, established family law practice where your work truly matters.

We are seeking an experienced, organized, and compassionate Family Law Paralegal/Legal Assistant to work closely with an established family law attorney in a busy, client-focused small practice.

This is more than an administrative position. You will play an integral role in managing cases from intake through resolution, communicating directly with clients, preparing legal documents, coordinating deadlines and hearings, and helping keep the practice running smoothly.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership, thinks ahead, stays organized under pressure, and genuinely cares about providing excellent service to clients who are often navigating difficult and deeply personal circumstances.

    What You'll Do
    • Prepare pleadings, motions, declarations, subpoenas, parenting plans, agreements, correspondence, and other family law documents.
    • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, communicating professionally and compassionately about case needs, deadlines, documents, and next steps.
    • Manage case files, calendars, deadlines, appointments, mediations, depositions, hearings, and other case-related events.
    • Assist with discovery, including preparing responses, organizing and reviewing documents, redacting records, and organizing financial information.
    • Support hearings, mediations, and trials by preparing exhibits, trial notebooks, and other case materials.
    • Prepare and submit electronic court filings, monitor filing acceptance, coordinate service, and follow Oregon court procedures.
    • Assist with client intake, opening and closing files, billing, case management, correspondence, and other day-to-day administrative needs.
    • Anticipate what needs to be done and help ensure important details and deadlines don't fall through the cracks.

    What We're Looking For
    • 3+ years of experience in a legal setting, with Oregon family law or litigation experience strongly preferred.
    • Paralegal degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong proofreading abilities.
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently, take initiative, use good judgment, and know when an issue requires attorney attention.
    • Professional, patient, and compassionate communication with clients experiencing stressful or emotional circumstances.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
    • Experience with Clio, Adobe Acrobat, Dropbox, Box, and Oregon Odyssey File & Serve is a plus.
    • Dependability, discretion, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

    Why This Role?
If you enjoy being an essential part of a small, collaborative practice rather than simply completing assigned tasks, this position may be a great fit.

You will have meaningful involvement in cases, regular interaction with clients and the attorney, and the opportunity to make a real contribution to both the practice and the people we serve. We value someone who is proactive, dependable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in doing excellent work.

    Position: Full-time
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience
