Full-Time Family Assistant / House Manager – La Jolla

Location: La Jolla, CASchedule: Approximately 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, up to 40 hours per weekCompensation: Approximately $28–$32/hour, depending on experience and schedule flexibility

About the Position

A wonderful La Jolla family is seeking a warm, personable, highly organized, and proactive Full-Time Family Assistant / House Manager to help manage the day-to-day details of their busy household.

With two children, ages 14 and 11, who are becoming increasingly independent, this role is less focused on traditional nanny responsibilities and much more centered around household management, organization, family assistance, driving, errands, meal preparation, and keeping the family's schedule running smoothly.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys being the person behind the scenes who keeps everything organized, anticipates what needs to happen next, and takes pride in making a family's life easier.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Managing day-to-day household needs and helping keep the family's schedule organized and running smoothly

  • Assisting with the morning routine beginning around 7:00 AM

  • Preparing and packing school lunches

  • Handling school drop-offs and pick-ups

  • Driving the children to local sports, activities, appointments, and other commitments

  • Maintaining family calendars and tracking school, sports, activities, appointments, and household commitments

  • Grocery shopping and maintaining household grocery lists

  • Running family and household errands

  • Preparing dinners and assisting with weekly meal planning and meal prep

  • Keeping the refrigerator and pantry organized and stocked

  • Monitoring household supplies and replenishing items as needed

  • Managing children's laundry, linens, belongings, and general organization

  • Organizing closets, bedrooms, sports equipment, seasonal items, and frequently used household spaces

  • Handling returns, exchanges, dry cleaning, packages, and other household errands

  • Receiving deliveries and helping coordinate household appointments and service providers

  • Preparing the household for upcoming travel, guests, activities, or events

  • Keeping the kitchen, common areas, and frequently used spaces tidy and organized throughout the day

  • Communicating with the family's weekly housekeeper to help ensure household priorities are addressed

  • Walking and helping care for the family's two adorable small dogs

  • Taking ownership of miscellaneous household projects as they arise

  • Anticipating the family's needs and taking initiative without requiring constant direction

What This Role Is — and Isn't

The family already employs a housekeeper who comes once per week, so this is not a housekeeping position.

The focus is on managing the moving pieces of a busy household: staying organized, anticipating needs, keeping everyone on schedule, handling errands and meals, and making sure important details don't fall through the cracks.

The Ideal Candidate

We would love to meet someone who is:

  • Warm, upbeat, and personable

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Dependable and punctual

  • Proactive and naturally takes initiative

  • Flexible and comfortable with changing priorities

  • Confident managing multiple schedules and responsibilities

  • Comfortable driving children locally

  • Comfortable around and caring for small dogs

  • A strong communicator

  • Able to work independently without needing a daily task list

  • Experienced in a Family Assistant, House Manager, Personal Assistant, or similar household support role

Most importantly, the right person will be someone who can walk into the home, recognize what needs attention, and confidently take ownership of it.

If you're an organized self-starter who loves creating order, supporting a busy family, and being the person who keeps everything moving behind the scenes, we'd love to hear from you!
