Job Summary:

All full-time faculty members have a responsibility to actively participate in an institution of higher learning to benefit and engage with students and colleagues in realizing the mission of Sinte Gleska University. This participation manifests in scholarship, service, and teaching.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching Human Service classes in the MA graduate degree program level for the LPC and certified school counselor

  • Thorough preparation for teaching load. Full-time teaching load should be 12 hours, unless other arrangements are negotiated withuniversity.

  • Prepare and teach the required hours/semester for the academic year, with one class in the summer as per contract.

  • Involvement and assist in curriculum planning, development and scheduling for Human Services Department.

  • Classroom design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and other associated responsibilities, both in-person and in an online virtual classroom setting.

  • Assessment of student performance, including the preparation, administration, grading, and evaluation of tests, papers, and examinations and the reporting of grades.

  • Maintain 15 office hours persemester.

  • Advise students and participate in the registration process as assigned. Conferences with, and academic advisement of, students outside of their registration needs.

  • Keep current and professionally engaged in area ofexpertise.

  • EngagewithSGUfunctionssuchasdepartmentalresponsibilities,committeeassignments, and other assignments in accordance with department and/or universitymission.

  • Faculty should expect to provide service to the institution and the community through committee work, departmental responsibilities and work as identified and needed in thecommunity.

  • Conduct in-house and community seminars and short training sessions on various topics, conductive to job upgrade, limited to the excess working time after the above responsibilities have been fulfilled.

  • Respect and adhere to other departmental/college/ internet service provider’s acceptable use policies.

  • Along with support from peers and university mentors, utilize innovative and culturally responsive pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning experiences.

  • Input into the selection and procurement of textbooks, and other materials for classroom or laboratory use.

  • Other duties as assigned in the performance of his/her responsibilities and as mutually agreed upon to the benefit of Sinte Gleska University.

  • Qualifications & Experience:

  • Facultymustpossessat least eighteen (18) credits in the content area.

  • Responsible person with a Ph.D in psychology, licensed psychologist or Ph.D in Counselor Education + Supervision.

  • Research skills and teaching experience is helpful.

  • Current professional licensure.

  • Familiarity with Native American culture and experience working with Native Americans and minority clients and students and must have the ability to establish and maintain effective instructional relationships withstudents

  • Facultymustpossessculturalcompetencieswithreferencetoworking withLakotaand NativeAmericanpeopleandrespectiveorganizationswithinreservation boundaries.
