Position Summary

The instructor is responsible for teaching courses and implementing the instructional program in accordance with course syllabi, College policies and Alabama Community College System guidelines. The instructor will teach courses aligned with industry standards and workforce needs, prepare students for employment and certification, and support student success through effective teaching, advising, and engagement. This individual will assist in updating curricula, maintain teaching equipment, serve on College committees and support the total mission of the College. Position requires extensive knowledge of the instructional discipline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments and maintain duty hours in accordance with the current faculty schedule. Classes may be taught at either campus or at an off-campus site. Classes may be scheduled day, evening or weekends to meet student needs.
  • Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the course syllabi, facilitate student learning, and assist in implementing the total instructional program.
  • Promote safety throughout the total instructional program.
  • Maintain instructional related records including student attendance, student grades, enrollment records, competency records, students plan of study, etc.
  • Provide timely and accurate student "No Show" reports. These reports require instructor signatures and instructors are potentially financially liable for inaccurate reporting.
  • Maintain classroom and laboratory equipment, supplies, and environments which promote learning to perform in the current and emerging work world environments.
  • Complete required surveys and student data requests.8.Communicate with program advisory committee members, employers, and former students to receive guidance for upgrading curriculum and instruction.
  • Provide academic advisement and assistance to students in career decision-making program planning, registration, and job seeking.
  • Assist in developing and upgrading course syllabi and other curriculum materials.
  • Serve on college committees as needed to support the total mission of the college.
  • Promote the specific instructional program and the total institution within the occupational area and throughout the community.

  • Adhere to annual faculty evaluations.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and appropriate test and measurement devices.
  • Attend faculty professional development, in-service programs, and other college programs and functions, such as commencement and award ceremonies.
  • Participate fully in the institutional planning process and assist in carrying out the overall instructional mission of the College.
  • Maintain compliance with College and program related accreditation and certification standards.
  • Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts.Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Vice President, Vice President of Instruction, and Assistant Dean of Career Technical Education.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or Certificate in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equivalent from a regionally accredited institution with three (3) or more years recent full-time work experience in the occupational or technical field.
  • Must possess an EPA certification and licensure from the Alabama Board of Heating and Air.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 27 semester hours in the teaching field and six (6) years of documented full-time work experience in the teaching field; or bachelor's degree with specialized coursework equivalent to the community or technical college program and six (6) years of documented full-time work experience in the teaching field.
  • Successful completion of an approved occupational examination within the first year of employment.

Sick Leave

All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
