Factory Automation Engineer

BlueWave is hiring a Factory Automation Engineer for an advanced manufacturing client based in Glendale, Kentucky. As a Factory Automation Engineer, you will own automated material transportation and storage systems from design through commissioning and production ramp-up. You will adapt automation designs to existing facility constraints while supporting safe, reliable material flow and production continuity.

Responsibilities

• Own route design, traffic-management strategy, fleet sizing, and operation for automated guided vehicle and autonomous mobile robot systems.
• Lead site acceptance testing, debugging, commissioning, and production ramp-up for factory automation equipment.
• Implement new automated storage and retrieval systems and support the retooling of existing systems.
• Develop warehouse layouts, storage strategies, zone configurations, and buffer-sizing requirements.
• Integrate conveyors, transfer systems, material handoff points, charging infrastructure, and production-sequencing systems.
• Coordinate fleet management and warehouse control system integration with enterprise systems.
• Develop, validate, and document manual backup procedures for automated material-transportation paths.
• Adapt automation designs to accommodate existing building and production constraints.
• Troubleshoot material-flow issues that could interrupt or restrict production.
• Coordinate installation activities with engineering, facilities, production, technology, purchasing, and supplier teams.
• Prepare system-status updates, engineering handoff documentation, and operational-readiness assessments.
• Verify that automation systems meet safety, throughput, and production-readiness requirements.

Requirements

• Experience independently managing automated material transportation and storage systems.
• Experience designing routes and supporting fleet operations for automated guided vehicles or autonomous mobile robots.
• Experience implementing or retooling automated storage and retrieval systems.
• Knowledge of warehouse layouts, storage strategies, buffer sizing, conveyors, transfer systems, and material handoff points.
• Hands-on experience with equipment installation, site acceptance testing, debugging, commissioning, and production ramp-up.
• Experience integrating fleet management, warehouse control, enterprise resource planning, or related manufacturing systems.
• Ability to develop and validate manual backup procedures that maintain production during automation downtime.
• Ability to adapt automation designs for existing manufacturing environments.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional engineering teams, equipment manufacturers, and technology suppliers.
• Awareness of industrial networking and cybersecurity considerations.
• High-volume automated manufacturing, automated warehousing, or operating-facility deployment experience preferred.
• Knowledge of industrial controls and integrated operational and information technology systems preferred.
