Summary of Purpose

Responsible for the repair and upkeep of the college physical plant and facilities performing a variety of architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, maintenance and boiler operator assignments. This position is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.

Typical Duties

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

  • Operates and maintains air handlers, unit ventilators, and other HVAC equipment.
  • Operates and maintains chillers, cooling towers, chilled water pumping systems, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Operates and maintains boilers, heat exchangers, heating water pumping systems, and related equipment.
  • Tests water properties and treats closed loop systems and cooling towers with water treatment chemicals.
  • Repairs plumbing, lighting, electrical, and door hardware.
  • Maintains compliance with fire regulations and OSHA requirements.
  • Utilizes building automation/DDC system to operate equipment efficiently.
  • Assists in construction and renovation of buildings.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment.
  • Performs all other related maintenance and repair duties, as assigned.
  • Welds or brazes, as required.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Ability to perform repairs on a wide variety of plumbing, lighting, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment efficiently
  • Ability to maintain appropriate safety standards
  • Ability to direct others
  • Ability to weld to the satisfaction of the supervisor or have successfully completed an Oakland Community College credit welding course

Minimum Education and Experience

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of documented, directly related work experience.

LICENSES: High Pressure Boiler Operators license or Stationary Engineer license. Must also possess and maintain a current and valid Michigan driver's license.
