Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Facility Operations Specialist, at GS-1640-7/9/11, you must meet the minimum and/or basic qualification requirements listed below.
Minimum Education Requirement: A. Major study in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration.
OR
B. Experience that provided a knowledge of the practices and procedures related to property management, maintenance, materials requirements, and building operation and repair. This experience may have been gained in work such as budget or report preparation, maintenance of property and financial records, or trades or crafts work requiring technical knowledge or judgment.
AND
Specialized Experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: possessing general knowledge of trades including mechanical, electrical, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, plumbing, and carpentry. Understanding contracting, budget and project planning. Performing in both office and warehouse settings, operating, repairing and maintaining basic equipment. And corresponding with leadership and contractors throughout the maintenance process.

Understands project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and supervising for construction or renovation projects. Understands environmental compliance and energy efficient systems in building operations. Shows proficiency in maintenance management software and floor plan reading and measurements. Work is performed both in office and warehouse settings. And apply strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
