About the Position
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks a Facility Services Technician to serve in the Maintenance and Grounds section of the Administration Division. The Facility Services Technician provides hands-on facility and event support at the Two Mississippi Museums, ensuring spaces are clean, safe, welcoming, and prepared for daily operations, meetings, and special events. This highly visible, team-oriented role requires flexibility, strong time management, and a strong commitment to excellent service. The standard work schedule is 40 hours per week. Must be able to work rotating weekends. The Facility Services Technician performs routine custodial and facility services tasks to maintain clean and presentable spaces and provides hands-on support for meetings, programs, and special events, including setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, tablecloths, and other event-related materials. The position inspects and prepares spaces before and after events to ensure areas and restrooms are clean, orderly, safe, and ready for opening the next business day. The Facility Services Technician responds to facility and event-related needs in a timely, professional manner; communicates with teammates, staff, and visitors as needed; and moves, arranges, and organizes furniture to support daily operations, meetings, and special events. The Facility Services Technician maintains and monitors exterior areas, sidewalks, entrances, parking garages, and other common spaces for cleanliness, security concerns, or maintenance needs and reports issues appropriately. The position supports parking facility operations by keeping parking garages clean, performing routine checks, assisting visitors, identifying safety or lighting concerns, and reporting unusual or suspicious activity to supervisors and Capitol Police. The Facility Services Technician also assists with receiving deliveries and outgoing mail, including preparing items for shipping, weighing packages, and applying appropriate postage. The Facility Services Technician stays aware of upcoming events, changing priorities, and facility needs, and proactively takes action to support successful operations. The position works collaboratively with team members while also demonstrating the ability to identify and complete tasks independently without direct supervision. The Facility Services Technician adjusts daily assignments as needed to support operational priorities, events, and special projects.
What youll need to be Successful
The ability to take initiative and identify what needs to be done without waiting for direction. The candidate should communicate effectively and respond appropriately to work instructions, changing needs, and shifting priorities. The candidate should be able to follow instructions while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and seeing tasks through to completion. A high level of attention to detail is essential, particularly when preparing spaces for meetings, events, and other activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires 3-4 years of experience. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED) is preferred. Candidates should have at least three (3) years of relevant experience in facilities services, event support, custodial services, hospitality, operations, customer service, or a related field. Experience supporting meetings, special events, facility operations, or similar service-oriented environments is preferred, as is experience working in a role requiring frequent interaction with the public, staff, vendors, or event participants.
