Description

Governors State University is seeking to hire a Facilities Operations Coordinator in the Facilities Development & Management department to be responsible for a variety of essential tasks related to the effective management, operation, and safety of the university. The primary purpose of this position is to develop, administer, and manage programs procedures, and protocols to ensure a healthy and safe work environment, as well as to comply with the latest regulations law codes and standards.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President (AVP), this position will address the needs of Facilities and Development Management (FDM) by researching, documenting, and recommending solutions to routine and special situations as they arise. The duties of this role require extensive knowledge of the universitys organization, programs, policies, and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

25% Provide comprehensive administrative support to the AVP and the broader FDM staff. Assist with facility project coordination technical documentation. and operations follow-up tasks. Serve as an authoritative liaison providing clear safety information and assistance to all university levels. Research and recommend solutions for routine and special operations situations impacting FDM. Manage data entry report preparation. purchasing activities. and meeting coordination for facility safety. Maintain and update relevant web content and electronic compliance records as it relates to facility safety. Remain current with industry standards. inst1tut1onal trends. and modern safety best practices.

25% Develop and maintain a budget for operational risk management. Manage inventory controls and process requisitions and invoices for incoming university goods and safety supplies. Authorize orders for safety equipment and essential facility operational supplies. Evaluate maintenance reports and operational spending to maintain safe, functional and budget-compliant university facilities.

10% Enhance campus space logistics by auditing vacancies and managing hotel suite operations to maximize resources. Oversee office layout changes to ensure university compliance.

10% Conduct safety inspections. incident investigations. hazard assessments and compliance audits across campus. Ensure continuous adherence to OSHA EPA. NFPA. Illinois Department of Labor, and other applicable regulations. Investigate identify. and evaluate occupational safety issues and recommend quick corrective actions. Review campus infrastructure projects for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Illinois Accessibility Code. Coordinate required inspections, testing, monitoring, and state reporting for underground storage tanks with facilities engineers.

10% Develop, maintain, and coordinate mandatory institutional safety training programs. Deliver specialized training modules, including lockout/tagout. confined space entry. fall protection. scaffolding. and ladder/aerial work platform safety. Deliver general training such as. respirator protection. hazard communication bloodborne pathogens. construction safety, industrial hygiene, and asbestos management. Lead safety discussions within the College of Arts and Sciences Art Safety Committee. Develop committee recommendations and coordinate implementation of policies to improve campus safety practices

10% Oversee hazardous waste accumulation. storage. transportation. recordkeeping. strict regulatory compliance. and the universitys medical and hazardous waste management program, including the proper inventory storage, recycling, and disposal of batteries, lamps. ballasts, etc.

5% Ensure annual certification calibration, and operational readiness of fume hoods and air monitoring equipment. Coordinate testing inspections. maintenance and recordkeeping for all campus AEDs. Procure replacement parts Includ1ng AED batteries. pads and related emergency response equipment. Perform ergonomic assessments on office furniture to ensure staff workplace wellness. Serve as the primary dig coordinator for Joint Utility Locating information for JULIE. Work with internal and external crews to verify proper utility markings before excavation

5% Other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $50,190.30 - $70,000.00.

This is a full-time, on-campus position from 8:00 - 4:00 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. AND

  • Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months)from the categories below:

  • college course work in facility management, operations management, or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

  • 60 semester hours or an Associate's Degree equals one (1) year (12 months)

  • training from a vocational, technical, or an armed forces program which includes building operations such as coordination of building maintenance, construction management, hospitality, or closely related experience.

  • work experience which includes building operations such as coordination of building maintenance and work orders, construction management, hospitality, or closely related experience. AND

  • One (1) year (12 months) of supervisory or administrative experience which includes building operations such as coordination of building maintenance and work orders, construction management, hospitality, or closely related experience.

Desired qualifications:

  • Master s degree
  • Extensive knowledge of facilities compliance. including safety codes. standards, and regulations
  • Knowledge of emergency and hazard response procedures
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures
  • Three years of professional experience in environmental health and safety and project

coordination

  • Working knowledge of OSHA. EPA. Life Safety and NFPA codes
  • Management and administrative skills and experience
  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute National Incident Management System Training Certification
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in diverse field settings, with various equipment and groups
  • Knowledge in the areas of risk management. insurance. and methods of ris" reductio
  • Willingness and ability to become ASP Certified
  • Willingness and ability to become certified in other relevant fields
  • Working knowledge of Illinois Department of Labor Policy and regulations
  • Must know how to conduct himself/herself in the field in various situations with various pieces

of equipment and various groups.
