Job Summary: The Facilities Mechanical Engineer III operates with limited supervision and serves as a technical resource for the operation, maintenance, performance, design, and installation of facility mechanical systems, including HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, and associated controls. This role supports and leads sustaining and expansion projects, conducts system performance analysis, and resolves complex operational issues to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety. The position collaborates closely with Operations & Maintenance teams, vendors, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders to optimize facility performance, enforce engineering standards, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the Facilities Mechanical Engineer III mentors junior staff, provides technical guidance, and impacts multiple projects and operational teams across the facility. Essential Duties: Functional Operations: Provide technical expertise for the operation, maintenance, performance, design, and installation of mechanical facility systems, including HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, and associated controls Conduct routine assessments of facility systems through testing, system rounds, monitoring, and data analysis to ensure reliable and efficient operation Utilize automated fault detection and diagnostic tools to optimize energy conservation and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) Lead and support medium-sized facility improvement, sustaining, and expansion projects, managing project activities, timelines, and deliverables Support development and review of sequences of operation, control strategies, and sensor/device locations for new and existing facility systems Respond to facility emergencies, including equipment failures, fire alarms, evacuations, and critical system events Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot complex, multi-variable system performance issues and perform root cause analysis to identify and implement corrective actions Lead initiatives to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, operational efficiency, and energy performance Partner with Operations & Maintenance teams in the field to evaluate maintenance practices, identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and operational performance, and implement process improvements and best practices Assist with updates to maintenance requirements, as-built documentation, and spare parts inventories to improve system lifecycle performance Ensure sustaining and expansion projects comply with established facility engineering standards, design requirements, and operational objectives Training & Team Support: Mentor and train junior facilities engineers and technical staff on mechanical systems, procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and safety protocols Provide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical guidance, and support to Operations & Maintenance personnel and project teams May lead small project teams or coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders to achieve project objectives Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, construction, and environmental health & safety teams to support facility objectives Maintain ongoing communication with vendors, contractors, and suppliers and conduct field audits to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with project requirements Build relationships and share best practices with engineers across disciplines and Panasonic facilities Present technical findings, recommendations, and project updates to management and stakeholders Make independent decisions and recommendations within area of technical expertise Quality, Safety, & Compliance: Ensure facility systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements Support enforcement of facility engineering standards during sustaining and expansion projects Verify contractor and supplier compliance with safety, quality, and operational requirements Ensure adherence to all safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements: To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a possibility and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. Qualifications Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Education, Certifications, and Licenses: Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field Relevant work experience may be substituted for required education Essential Qualifications: 4+ years of relevant HVAC design, facilities engineering, or mechanical systems engineering experience Experience supporting mechanical facility systems, including HVAC, hydronic, plumbing systems, and associated controls Familiarity with DDC and/or SCADA control interfaces Experience troubleshooting mechanical system performance issues and implementing corrective actions Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and present technical information to technical and non-technical audiences Strong technical leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment while delivering quality results Self-starter with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and drive issues to resolution with minimal direction Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and team-building skills Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English Alignment to Panasonic's seven (7) core principles: contribution to society, fairness and honesty, cooperation and team spirit, untiring effort for improvement, courtesy and humility, adaptability, and gratitude Preferred Qualifications: 6+ years of relevant facilities engineering, mechanical engineering, or HVAC engineering experience Experience supporting the design, construction, startup, or operation of large-scale facilities, preferably within advanced manufacturing environments Prior experience working as a Facilities Engineer within a manufacturing facility Experience reviewing, supporting, or overseeing the installation of MEP equipment on construction projects Experience managing facility or engineering projects Experience reviewing and developing standard operating procedures Basic understanding of control PID loop tuning Experience with automated fault detection and diagnostics platforms Physical Demands: Physical Activities: Percentage of time (equaling 100%) during the normal workday the employee is required to: Sit: 25% Walk: 35% Stand: 40% Required Lifting and Carrying: Rare (
