Description

SAIC is looking for an experienced Facilities Mechanical Engineer to join a versatile team supporting our customer's global portfolio of mission critical facilities. This role involves providing technical engineering insight, leading complex design and construction projects, and ensuring the reliability of existing electrical and control systems. The position is located in Chantilly, VA and requires an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

In this enterprise-level role, you will be a key contributor to our engineering team. You will be collaborating with a range of stakeholders, including the Government customer, project and construction managers, contractors, utilities, and other personnel, to ensure success across various electrical projects and challenges.

Job responsibilities for this Mechanical Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze, investigate, and document facilities mechanical and controls issues while keeping the Government customer well-informed on all concerns and solutions.
  • Review and evaluate design documents, such as construction plans, specifications, design analysis, sequence of operations, and calculations for constructability, concurrent maintainability, code compliance, and to ensure they align with the project requirements and customer standards.
  • Develop and review operational, maintenance, and commissioning methods and procedures to ensure proper site operation and system resiliency.
  • Develop short- and long-term plans for maximizing efficiency and performance of the mechanical systems supporting the sites around the world.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations for potential inclusion of sustainable practices and renewable energies
  • Perform design analyses and calculations for mechanical projects and conduct comparative cost analysis.
  • Provide technical support to Project Manager during the execution of their projects.
  • Develop, assist, and/or provide rationale in the development of capital budget proposals.
  • Review project submittals, shop drawings, and samples of materials and components to ensure compliance with contract and project documentation.
  • Participate in the review of maintenance procedures and policies.
  • Develop Best Practices to be applied across all areas of the organization.
  • Provide technical expertise and work with cross-functional teams for troubleshooting failures, repairs, and anomalies.
  • Coordinate and provide technical presentations of modern technologies that can be applicable to existing and new projects
  • Optimize equipment uptime, reliability, and efficiency by analyzing equipment performance data and maintenance practices.
  • Expected to travel for 2-4 short-term TDYs per year with the potential for longer term travel in special circumstances. Overall travel of 15-20%.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Poly. Applicants lacking clearance will not be considered.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 9 years or more experience; Masters and 7 years or more experience ; PhD or JD and 4 years or more years experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in intelligence, defense, or federal sectors, or a minimum of 7+ years in the commercial industry in a similar role.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations (e.g., heating and cooling load, hydronic pressure drop, external static pressure drop, NPSH, psychrometric, utility utilization projections, life cycle cost analysis).
  • Knowledge of mechanical codes and guidelines (e.g., SMACNA, ASHRAE, IBC, IMC, IPC, UFC, LEED, Indoor Air Quality Standards).
  • Knowledge of design analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical facilities infrastructure (e.g., HVAC, chilled water, steam, EMCS, heating water, ventilation, air distribution, plumbing, energy management, data centers).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification (any state).
  • Ability to travel.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (any state).
  • Master's degree in business or engineering.
  • Experience with chiller plant design
  • Some Knowledge of Technical software packages (e.g., AutoCAD, REVIT, SixSigma, Pipeflow, ARCHGIS, Trane Tracer, Trane Trace 3D Plus).

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
