Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Facility Maintenance Tech II preforms skilled preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation work to ensure City Facilities remain safe, functional, and operational. This position requires proficiency in multiple building trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and general building maintenance.

Essential Job Functions and Other Important Duties

  • Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on City-owned buildings, equipment, and facility systems
  • Responds to service requests in a timely manner, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact.
  • Troubleshoots and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, roofing, doors, locks, windows, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Works on large-scale maintenance projects as assigned, contributing to the teams efforts to upgrade and maintain facility infrastructure.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of tools and equipment necessary for facility maintenance.
  • Communicates existing and prospective issues with supervisor.
  • Completes all required safety training, certifications, and continuing education in a timely manner.
  • Remains accessible via cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Relatable Work Experience: At least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial or municipal facility maintenance or a related skilled trade.

Training (Licenses(s) and/or Certification(s): Valid Class C Texas Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications: EPA Section 608 Certification, HVAC Technician Certification, Electrical, plumbing, or building maintenance certifications.

  • Proficiency with utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools. (Drill, screwdriver, hammer, power saw, etc.)
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills by identifying and resolving potential problems.

Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements (Work Environment):

  • Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an office and field environment.
  • Regularly scheduled for 5-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday; overtime occasionally required.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Pushing and pulling - as required to operate related tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Climbing ladders.
