Our client, a municipality in St. Lucie County is seeking an accomplished Facilities Maintenance Division Manager to lead the maintenance, construction, custodial, and repair operations for buildings, parks, facilities, and associated amenities.
This highly responsible leadership position oversees the day-to-day activities of facilities personnel and contractors while ensuring that properties are maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards. The successful candidate will bring extensive facilities-management, construction, personnel-leadership, budgeting, and project-management experience.
Key Responsibilities
Direct, plan, and organize the construction, maintenance, custodial, and repair activities for facilities, parks, and related amenities.
Develop work plans, initiate work orders, assign priorities, and ensure projects are completed properly and on schedule.
Supervise, evaluate, coach, and manage facilities-maintenance and custodial personnel.
Coordinate staffing and facility support for events, emergencies, and special projects.
Inspect work in progress and completed projects for quality, safety, and compliance.
Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with the terms, conditions, specifications, and schedules contained in service agreements.
Establish preventive-maintenance programs and procedures.
Review architectural drawings, construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.
Coordinate building repairs, renovations, construction projects, and facility improvements.
Purchase materials, equipment, and supplies through established procurement procedures.
Monitor departmental expenditures and assist in preparing and administering the divisions budget.
Prepare reports, records, work-order updates, cost information, and responses to management requests.
Address citizen complaints and inquiries professionally and promptly.
Attend departmental, project, contractor, and community meetings.
Coordinate with other departments, government agencies, vendors, and private organizations.
Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
Perform other related management and facilities duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with major coursework in construction management, facilities management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
Ten years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, building maintenance, construction, or a closely related field.
At least five years of supervisory or management experience.
An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered.
Extensive knowledge of building-maintenance methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
Strong understanding of construction practices and the various phases of construction projects.
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, and blueprints.
Demonstrated experience supervising personnel and administering daily departmental operations.
Experience managing contractors, vendors, maintenance agreements, and construction-related projects.
Strong budgeting, purchasing, reporting, and cost-control skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Strong leadership, organization, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to respond effectively to citizen complaints, internal requests, and operational emergencies.
Valid Florida drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in construction management or a closely related discipline.
Florida Class B Commercial Drivers License.
Experience managing facilities for a municipality, county, school district, hospital, university, or other large public organization.
Experience overseeing parks, public buildings, custodial operations, and special-event support.
Relevant credentials such as Certified Facility Manager, Facilities Management Professional, Project Management Professional, or construction-related certifications.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance-management and electronic purchasing systems.
