Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day programming, planning, design, and construction activities for hospital and clinic projects.
• Act as liaison between clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies, ensuring clear communication and project alignment.
• Implement quality control measures, maintain project schedules and budgets, and ensure compliance with hospital and government standards.
• Lead consultant teams for MEP systems, Low Voltage and other hospital related building systems, resolve project issues proactively, and close projects efficiently after occupancy.
• Prepare organized, accurate documentation and contribute to department policy development.
• Provides leadership, and supervision to assigned consultants including but not limited to MEP, building controls, fire alarm, fire protection and low voltage

A Brief Overview
Coordinates and ensures alignment with SHC standards by integrating building systems, code compliance, and consultant deliverables throughout the design phases of healthcare facilities projects. Demonstrates capabilities as a technical architect in both large and small-scale projects. This role functions as a technical subject matter expert within Facilities Planning & Design, independently resolving complex architectural and regulatory challenges and improving planning, design, and documentation processes that support high quality, safe, and efficient facilities.

What you will do

• Provide technical architectural leadership on large and small healthcare projects, performing QA/QC reviews of drawings and technical details to ensure consulting architects uphold SHC’s building information modeling (BIM) and documentation standards.
• Represent SHC in coordination with consultant architects, ensuring user group goals and operational requirements are integrated into building design and, in collaboration with Facilities Construction, carried through to the end of construction. Perform architectural and regulatory code research (e.g., California Building Code (CBC), accessibility, HCAI/OSHPD) and support submission requirements to Authorities Having Jurisdiction and other regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate with SHC Facilities Services specialty teams (e.g., Land Use, Planning, Construction, Engineering, Facilities Management, Interior Design, Signage/Wayfinding, Medical Equipment, Sustainability, Activations) to ensure integrated and compliant project solutions.
• Support the Facilities Construction team through bidding and construction administration, including submittal reviews, shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), document interpretation, and site walks, helping to maintain design intent and quality.
• Manage schedules and design‑phase deliverables; align with Facilities Construction on project budgets, assumptions, and constraints; prepare and distribute clear, timely meeting agendas, minutes, and follow‑ups.
• Prepare clear diagrams, test fits, and presentation materials to communicate design intent, constraints, and options to stakeholders, including clinical and operational leaders.
• Apply lean principles, patient safety considerations, and evidence‑based design (EBD) concepts to inform planning decisions related to flows, adjacencies, materials, and finishes.
• Independently resolve complex, multi‑faceted architectural and regulatory issues, making recommendations where precedents may be limited and balancing operational, clinical, and financial impacts.
• Lead defined design workstreams or sub‑packages, assigning and reviewing work products from other staff to ensure consistency with SHC technical and quality standards.

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Experience Qualifications

• 5–7+ years architecture/engineering experience with healthcare projects; strong technical design background.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of all architectural design phases, from concept through construction documentation and closeout.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory codes and standards, construction methods, and building materials.
• Ability to read and coordinate across structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low‑voltage drawings in an integrated project environment.
• Demonstrated capability in QA/QC review of technical details, documentation quality, and BIM outputs for healthcare projects.
• Strong visual and graphic communication skills, including preparation of clear diagrams and presentations for diverse stakeholder audiences.
• Proven ability to collaborate with clinical, operational, and facilities stakeholders to translate functional needs into effective architectural solutions.
• Skilled in working with multi‑disciplinary teams (e.g., engineers, contractors, hospital staff) and managing competing priorities in a complex healthcare environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to succinctly synthesize and present complex technical information. Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with significant discretion and to recommend improvements to architectural processes and methods.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.52 - $88.14 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
