As Tesla's Fabrication Shop Manager, you will own day-to-day production in a self-perform fabrication shop supporting both industrial and advanced manufacturing construction programs. You will operate as the general superintendent of the shop - driving craft productivity, resolving issues in real time, and keeping pipe fabrication flowing from material issue through fit-up, weld, NDE, and release to the field. While the Project Manager owns budget, schedule, and weekly production output reporting, you will own the floor every day: craft, quality of workmanship, and the relentless daily execution required to keep construction off the critical path. If you lead from the shop floor, know piping fabrication codes cold, and refuse to let production stall, this role was built for you.
Own day-to-day piping fabrication shop operations, directing fit-up, welding, NDE support, handling, and staging from material issue through completed pipe spool release
Lead and develop a self-perform craft workforce of up to 100 personnel across shifts as required, setting clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and accountability
Resolve production constraints in real time, material shortages, weld repairs, equipment downtime, maintenance, sequencing conflicts, and workforce gaps, before they impact shop output or field need-by dates
Enforce fabrication quality and code compliance across ASME, AWS, and project welding/NDE requirements, partnering with the Quality team to ensure spools are right the first time
Coordinate closely with the Fabrication Project Manager on weekly production targets, look-ahead workfronts, and recovery actions while owning floor-level execution against the plan
Drive material control, consumables readiness, and shop flow, including cutting, fit-up stations, weld bays, inspection hold points, and staged release, to sustain continuous production velocity
Champion a zero-compromise safety culture in a high-tempo fabrication environment, including lifting/rigging, hot work, and shop housekeeping standards
5+ years of experience in a superintendent or management role for piping fabrication in industrial, refinery, chemical, or process facility environments
Demonstrated ability to lead large craft teams in a self-perform or fabrication shop setting and sustain production output under aggressive delivery schedules
Required working knowledge of piping fabrication codes and practices, including ASME B31.3 / Section IX (or equivalent), AWS welding standards, WPS/PQR application, fit-up tolerances, and NDE hold points
Proven ability to diagnose and clear shop-floor constraints quickly across material, labor, equipment, and quality interfaces
Strong communicator who can align craft leads, Quality, Warehousing/Material Control, and the Fabrication Project Manager around clear daily priorities
Hands-on, high energy, decisive leader who is present on the floor, sets the pace, and holds the standard for safety, workmanship, and accountability
