    Position Specific Description

    This role serves the South Broward region, including communities such as Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Hallandale Beach, Dania Beach, Southwest Ranches, Weston, Cooper City, Davie, and surrounding areas. The territory is one of Floridas most diverse and dynamic regions, encompassing rapidly growing residential and commercial development, major transportation corridors, critical infrastructure projects, and a broad range of business, civic, and community stakeholders.

    The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Broward Countys governmental, business, and community landscape, along with a demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with elected officials, municipal staff, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood stakeholders, and other key community partners. Success in this role depends on understanding local priorities, growth challenges, resiliency initiatives, and the relationships that influence decision-making throughout South Broward.

    The External Affairs (EA) Manager serves as FPLs primary local government and community representative within the territory, fostering productive partnerships with local governments, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, community and civic leaders, nonprofit partners, educational institutions, and other key stakeholders. The role requires credibility, sound judgment, political acumen, and the ability to effectively represent FPL while navigating complex community issues and advancing company priorities.

    During storm events and other emergencies, the EA Manager will serve as the FPL representative at county and municipal Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) and serve as a key liaison with local officials, emergency management personnel, and community leaders. The position also represents FPL at commission and council meetings, civic and business organizations, community forums, neighborhood meetings, and other stakeholder gatherings, serving as a visible and trusted representative of the company and its commitment to the communities it serves.

    Job Overview

    Employees in this role provide the strategic groundwork for the successful implementation of company policies, initiatives, and objectives (expansion, development, etc.) by raising awareness and advocacy to the local governmental, business, and general communities, and through the coordination of the internal and external customers. This position involves navigating issues to comply with company policies, including the change and interpretation of policies. Individuals are responsible for the early detection and resolution of issues that prevent or limit the company's financial exposure to penalties and fines (violation notices and citations), and protect company investments (nuclear cost recovery, rate case).

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Lobbies by researching, analyzing, and advocating for company positions on pending agenda items
    • Researches, compiles information, makes presentations, and meets with elected officials and Business and Community Leaders to provide information
    • Serves as a Board Member for BDO's, chambers, corporate/business, non-profits, etc.
    • Works with and across other business units to solve cross-functional problems and to build consensus
    • Analyzes and creates networking and bridge-building opportunities by attending - and inviting stakeholders to attend - company sponsored events
    • Creates opportunities and facilitates and participates in Executive presentations
    • Attends Council or Commission Meetings to monitor or present company business case positions
    • Travels extensively
    • Represents corporate leadership to external stakeholders and in the external community
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Experience: 7+ years
