Your Role

Akkodis is seeking an Exterior Lighting Design Engineer for a Contract with a client in Dearborn, MI (Hybrid). The ideal candidate is responsible for developing and validating lighting systems, conducting root cause analysis, and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective lighting solutions.

Rate Range: $40/Hour to $42/Hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Exterior Lighting Design Engineer Job Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design, development, validation, and release of exterior lighting systems including headlamps, tail lamps, fog lamps, CHMSL, and license plate lamps.

  • Develop and review 3D CAD models using CATIA and Teamcenter, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with engineering requirements.

  • Perform hands-on laboratory testing, diagnosis, and root cause analysis of lighting issues using tools such as multimeters, microscopes, and other test equipment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities to support design reviews, feasibility studies, cost analysis, and program execution.

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including DFMEAs, DVPRs, SCCAFs, P-Diagrams, Boundary Diagrams, and Engineering Statements of Work (ESOW).

  • Drive issue resolution and continuous improvement initiatives through 8D, 5-Why, Six Sigma methodologies, and validation testing to ensure product quality and performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field; master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in automotive lighting design, development, validation, or launch activities; 7+ years preferred.

  • Strong experience with automotive exterior lighting systems (headlamps, tail lamps, fog lamps, CHMSL, license plate lamps) along with CAD proficiency in CATIA/3DX and design-for-manufacturing principles.

  • Proven ability to perform lighting system development, validation, root cause analysis (8D/5 Why), and cross-functional collaboration to deliver robust, manufacturable lighting components within program timelines.

Pay Details: $40.00 to $42.00 per hour
