ABOUT SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS: Special Education Programs serves students with disabilities not otherwise served in the school districts that make up the San Joaquin SELPA, primarily for students with extensive support needs. Our programs serve students diagnosed with autism, visual impairment and deaf and hard of hearing, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, and students with emotional disability. The department supports every child's right to an education designed to meet individual needs. It is essential to provide experiences that will enable the individual to: - Develop ultimate functioning level - Learn in an environment that facilitates comfort, security and is not limited by physical barriers, and - Utilize those critical skills and attitudes necessary to adapt and function in everyday life. All children are active learners and have potential for growth. It is our goal to protect and nurture personal dignity, ensure health and safety, and promote understanding of the child. ABOUT THE ROLE: Under supervision of Special Education Program Administrator, will provide quality education to students with extensive support needs, ages 18 months to 22 years, through a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs; a functional, and/or community-based curriculum; communication and social skill development; interagency cooperation, and a strong parent-teacher-student linkage. Facilitate opportunities to develop and experiment with adaptive technology, vocational education, and integration with neurotypical populations. Does related work as required.
