We're looking for someone who knows their way around a paper cutter — and understands that there's a lot more to the job than making a straight cut!

K & W finishing, inc., an established print-finishing company in Baltimore, Maryland, is looking for an experienced Heidelberg Polar Cutter Operator who understands the importance of precision, planning, and quality workmanship.

Most of our cutting involves preprinted materials being prepared for additional finishing operations, including folding, stitching, die-cutting, foil stamping, and gluing. Occasionally, you'll also cut blank stock.

We're looking for someone who can look at a job, understand what needs to happen next, and determine the best way to cut it. Someone who knows that a fraction of an inch can make the difference between a successful job and a costly mistake.

What You'll Be Doing

• Setting up and operating Heidelberg Polar paper cutters accurately, safely, and efficiently.
• Reading job tickets, understanding specifications, and planning the best cutting sequence.
• Understanding how materials need to be cut and prepared for subsequent operations such as folding, stitching, die-cutting, gluing, and other finishing processes.
• Maintaining quality, accuracy, and consistency throughout production.
• Troubleshooting problems, making adjustments, and identifying potential issues before they become expensive mistakes.
• Working with other operators and departments to keep jobs moving through the shop.
• Helping out wherever needed. We're a team, and teamwork matters!

Even Better If You Can Operate Other Equipment!

While Heidelberg Polar cutter experience is essential, we're particularly interested in candidates who have experience setting up and operating other bindery or print-finishing equipment, including:

• Stahl Folders
• Bobst or Moll Gluers
• Heidelberg Saddle Stitchers
• Heidelberg Cylinder Die-Cutting Presses
• Kluge, Brausse, Majestic, Bobst, or Heidelberg Windmill Presses
• Smaller finishing equipment such as high-die machines, round-cornering machines, shrink-wrap equipment, and paper drills

The more you know, the more opportunities there are to put your skills to work!

What We're Looking For

• Independently setting up and operating Heidelberg Polar paper cutters.
• Planning cutting sequences for preprinted work, taking into consideration registration, gripper and guide edges, bleeds, and subsequent finishing operations.
• Reading job tickets, understanding specifications, and recognizing potential problems before cutting begins.
• Maintaining accurate, consistent cuts while working efficiently.
• Occasionally cutting blank paper and other materials to specified sizes.
• Communicating with other operators to ensure work is properly prepared for the next production step.
• Troubleshooting problems and taking pride in producing quality work.
• Pitching in wherever needed to help the team get the job done.

We appreciate people who take initiative, solve problems, and don't need someone standing over their shoulder all day.

A steady, daytime schedule — no rotating shifts!

Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with overtime available as needed. (Never forced)
