Who we hire at Donald Guy Heating & Cooling
Technical skill gets you the interview. How you treat people gets you the job. Our technicians serve the customer in front of them and the teammate beside them, tell the truth about what they find, work well with others, and finish what they start. We are honest on every call. That one is not negotiable here. We ask our people to sacrifice for the customer and the team, and we sacrifice right back for them. We will train you on equipment; we expect you to bring the character.

Donald Guy Heating & Cooling is a licensed HVAC contractor (CAC1823478) that has kept Tallahassee comfortable since 1996. We handle residential and commercial service, repair, maintenance and installation across Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties and the surrounding North Florida communities. We're local, not a franchise.

The role
You are the technician a customer calls when something has stopped working. You diagnose residential and light commercial heating and cooling systems, explain the problem in plain language, present honest repair or replacement options, and make the repair right the first time.
What you'll do
  • Diagnose and repair split systems, heat pumps, package units, gas and electric furnaces, air handlers and mini-splits
  • Troubleshoot contactors, capacitors, motors, thermostats, control boards and low-voltage wiring
  • Recover, evacuate, charge and leak-check refrigerant systems per EPA Section 608 and manufacturer specs
  • Take airflow, static pressure, superheat and subcooling readings to support the diagnosis
  • Present findings and honest options, document the call and collect payment in our field software
  • Keep your truck stocked, clean and inventoried
  • Take one week of on-call roughly once a month
What you bring
  • 3+ years of residential or light commercial HVAC service experience
  • EPA 608 certification, Type II or Universal (NATE a plus)
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and refrigeration faults on your own
  • Working knowledge of R-410A and A2L refrigerants
  • Valid Florida driver's license and a driving record that meets our insurance requirements (offer contingent on pre-employment screening)
  • Your own hand tools, meters and gauges
What you get
  • $32 to $40 per hour depending on experience, certifications and performance, plus overtime
  • Weekly pay
  • Company vehicle and fuel card
  • Free SkillCat membership: 150+ courses plus EPA 608 and NATE prep, paid by us
  • Tool replacement: if a personal tool fails on the job, we replace it with equal or better. We supply vacuum pumps and recovery machines
  • Health insurance, paid time off and paid holidays
  • Steady year-round work and a real path to grow
  • Leadership that backs you in front of a customer when you're right, and tells you privately when you're not
