Position Summary
We are seeking a Controls Engineer II to join a high performing automation engineering team. This role is ideal for a hands on engineer who can independently execute projects, support onsite commissioning activities, and work directly with customers to deliver reliable automation solutions.
The Controls Engineer II will own small to medium sized projects from design through final acceptance, including programming, troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and customer communication. This individual will also contribute technical expertise during project execution and provide guidance to junior team members when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Design, program, test, and commission industrial automation systems using Rockwell Automation technologies
Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications utilizing Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, and PlantPAx platforms
Lead or support onsite startup, commissioning, loop checks, troubleshooting, and system validation activities
Manage assigned project scopes, timelines, technical deliverables, and customer communications
Interpret and work from P&IDs, I/O lists, cause and effect diagrams, and electrical schematics
Participate in technical meetings and provide project status updates to stakeholders
Troubleshoot control systems, instrumentation, and network communication issues in industrial environments
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices and knowledge sharing
Key Requirements
3 to 6 years of direct experience as a Controls Engineer within industrial automation environments
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline; candidates with significant process control experience may also be considered
Strong hands on experience with Rockwell Automation platforms including Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, PlantPAx, ControlLogix, and CompactLogix
Proven experience leading or supporting industrial commissioning, plant startups, system upgrades, and project execution from design through final acceptance
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, cause and effect matrices, I/O lists, and electrical drawings
Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/IP, or Modbus RTU
Familiarity with PowerFlex drives, Kinetix motion control systems, field instrumentation, and control system architecture
Experience working independently in a remote first environment, with strong communication, organization, and customer facing skills
Ability and willingness to travel as required to support client projects and commissioning activities
Authorization to work in the United States and possession of a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Siemens PCS7 automation systems
Knowledge of PROFIBUS or PROFINET networks
Experience with VMware and virtualized control environments
Familiarity with AutoCAD or EPLAN for control panel design and bill of material development
Practical experience with field instrumentation, HART communication, and calibration activities
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary ranging from $91,000 to $107,000 annually based on experience
