ROLE AND PURPOSE:
The Executive Director of Instruction leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of district-wide
instructional systems to ensure all students experience rigorous, standards-aligned instruction every day. At Connally ISD,
the Executive Director of Instruction drives coherence across instructional materials, professional learning communities,
intervention and extension systems, summer learning, student learning experiences, and library media services while
partnering with campus leaders and central office teams to strengthen instructional quality, monitor implementation, and
improve student outcomes for all student groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Mathematics, Science, or related field is
preferred.
- Valid Texas teacher certification is preferred.
- Valid Texas administrator certification is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of successful teaching experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience at the campus or district level.
- Demonstrated success leading district-wide instructional initiatives or systems.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, and large-scale projects.
- Experience supporting diverse student populations and advancing equity-focused practices.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of TEKS, instructional best practices, and curriculum alignment across grade levels and content
areas.
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), collaborative planning structures, and data-driven
instruction.
- Knowledge of intervention and extension systems, including differentiation and tiered supports.
- Knowledge of instructional materials selection, implementation, and monitoring processes.
- Knowledge of library media programs and their role in supporting literacy, research, and student learning
experiences.
- Ability to analyze student performance data and translate findings into actionable instructional recommendations.
- Ability to plan, implement, and monitor district-wide instructional initiatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and instructional technology tools.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP:
- Develop and communicate a coherent PK-12 instructional vision aligned to district goals, priorities, and the Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
- Ensure coherence across curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning systems.
- Lead long-term planning and continuous improvement efforts for instructional programs and initiatives.
- Advise executive leadership on instructional strategy, implementation, and innovation.
II. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND RESOURCES:
- Lead the review, selection, adoption, and implementation of high-quality instructional materials aligned to standards
and district priorities.
- Ensure instructional resources are culturally responsive, accessible, and designed to support diverse learners.
- Develop and monitor implementation plans for curriculum rollouts, including training, coaching supports, feedback
loops, and fidelity checks.
- Allocate resources and manage budgets to support instructional materials and tools.
III. PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES (PLCS):
- Establish district-wide PLC vision, expectations, and accountability systems.
- Build leadership capacity among campus administrators to lead effective PLCs.
- Support campuses in using PLC structures to internalize lessons, analyze student work, and respond to data.
- Monitor effectiveness and scale best practices across campuses.
IV. INTERVENTION, EXTENSION, AND STUDENT LEARNING EXPERIENCES:
- Design and oversee district systems for daily intervention and enrichment.
- Ensure equitable access to supports and learning experiences for all student groups.
- Oversee planning, design, and evaluation of summer learning and extended learning opportunities.
- Lead initiatives that expand meaningful and relevant learning opportunities beyond the core curriculum.
V. LIBRARY MEDIA SERVICES:
- Provide strategic direction for district library media programs.
- Ensure alignment of library services to literacy goals, research skills, and instructional priorities.
- Support innovation in library services to enhance student access and engagement.
VI. DATA AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:
- Establish systems for analyzing district-wide instructional data.
- Lead the use of data to inform decision-making, resource allocation, and program evaluation.
- Monitor key performance indicators and report progress to executive leadership and the Board.
- Recommend adjustments to instructional strategy, resources, and supports based on data and implementation
evidence.
VII. COLLABORATION:
- Partner with executive leadership, campus administrators, and district departments to ensure alignment and
coherence.
- Communicate vision, expectations, and progress to stakeholders clearly and effectively.
- Represent the district in external partnerships and professional networks as assigned.
VIII. OTHER DUTIES:
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Chief Education Officer.
IX. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervise and evaluate assigned directors, coordinators, and instructional staff.
X. EQUIPMENT & SOFTWARE SKILLS:
- Personal computer, printer, fax machine, copier, scanner, and calculator.
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, One Drive, etc.).
- Google Suite applications (Docs, G-Mail, Sheets, Slides, Drive, etc.).
- Instructional technology and data systems as assigned.
