EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma required; Associates degree or two years of college preferred. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITES: Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Capable of performing daily physically-demanding tasks. Ability to complete assigned duties productively and efficiently. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong collaboration and adaptability to the classroom environment. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Interact with students in an age-appropriate manner that demonstrates an appropriate understanding of each student's individual needs, abilities, and disabilities. Carry out all physical care routines for students as indicated on their Health Plans and/or Individual Education Plan's (IEP's) including but not limited to: personal hygiene and medication administration with training provided by the school nurse. Crisis Prevention Institute, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) de-escalation techniques usage for students in crisis with provided training. CPI NCI Website Participation in Transportation Safety Assistant training for providing supervision and support for students in BCS vehicles. Be physically capable of daily frequent standing, walking, kneeling and lifting. Provide individualized and group instruction based on teacher plans. Assist students with daily living skills: toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene as trained by the school nurse. Provide close student supervision in all school settings. Maintain student safety in all school settings and activities.
2026 Buncombe County Schools Job Description | page 2 of 2 Assist students in adaptive aquatics including participation in the therapy pool and provide personal student care in the dressing room Administration and documentation of student medications according to school policies and procedures Create and maintain classroom materials. Demonstrate a basic level of computer proficiency needed to assist classroom teacher and students. Set-up and use assistive technology and augmentative communication devices to assist students with school related activities. Possess manual skills for general housekeeping in classroom Assist in the organization and implementation of all school related activities. Collect and record student data. Maintain confidentiality of all student information Serve as a role model to students and colleagues in actions, words, attire, and commitment Treat students and colleagues with dignity and respect at all times Understand and follow the established laws, rules and regulations of Buncombe County Schools as outlined in the Employee Handbook Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator(s) and/or classroom teacher this can include but is not limited to in-service training, participation in staff meetings, serving as a representative on the Continuous Improvement Team.
