Compensation & Classification

  • Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour

Work Schedule

This seasonal position operates primarily April 1 through December 1, averaging up to 30 hours per week.

  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12-month period.
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city's pension system.

Typical schedule:

  • Thursday through Sunday
  • 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM or 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Flexibility is required to support special events, peak recreation periods, and operational needs.

About the Role

The Event Operations & Parks Ambassador serves as the Parks and Recreation Departments primary field representative during Greensboros busiest recreation and special event season. Working under the direction of the Citys Special Event Coordinator, youll support event logistics, monitor neighborhood parks, assist event organizers, and help ensure City facilities remain safe, clean, and welcoming.

This highly visible position combines customer service, park stewardship, equipment operation, and event support to deliver outstanding experiences for the community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support on-site operations for City-sponsored and permitted special events.
  • Deliver, set up, maintain, and retrieve event equipment and resources.
  • Assist event organizers by providing customer service and operational support.
  • Monitor neighborhood parks and public spaces during assigned shifts.
  • Help protect park facilities and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Operate City vehicles, trucks, ATVs, and other equipment as assigned.
  • Transport and handle event equipment, including tables, chairs, tents, barricades, generators, signage, barrels, and related materials.
  • Promote safe park use while educating visitors about park policies and amenities.
  • Work collaboratively with Parks and Recreation staff, event organizers, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Maintain reliable communication and complete assignments safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, shovel, and work on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work around traffic, equipment, and active event sites while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid North Carolina Drivers License.
  • One or more years of experience in parks and recreation, forestry, landscaping, grounds maintenance, event operations, or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
