Job Title:EV Battery TechnicianJob Description:This technician will report to a 2nd shift Group Leader and specialize in the safe and orderly preparation and testing of high voltage batteries and related components within a lab environment. This role indirectly affects the quality, durability and performance of electrified vehicles and related products developed by OEM. This role is a good fit for a qualified individual who is interested in state-of-the-art battery technologies and testing methods, and is interested in the growing field of vehicle electrification.Key Responsibilities:Champion safe test setup for battery assemblies and related components. This includes defining and performing procedures and checks to ensure test results are delivered on-time and with quality.Develop and manufacture special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, laboratory test equipment, and fixtures related to testing of battery assemblies or related componentsPerform physical duties involving large and heavy high voltage batteries including movement, shipping, and disposalMaintain records on work performed including data collected or analyzedMaintain awareness of Business Plan Deployment goals and objectives, identify and suggest relevant opportunities for improvementDevelop, implement, and sustain workplace organization practicesMaintain and communicate findings with engineering personnel through verbal or written meansRecommend revisions to product or component design as neededConduct or assist with Safety and Abuse testing as neededConduct or assist with detailed teardown and analysis of battery cells, modules, and packsConduct or assist with vibration testing including working above 6 ft and using cranes and rigging to move high voltage propertiesAble to successfully complete all required UAW GM training courses including respirator, cranes/hoist, Lockout etc.Tasks: Instrumenting batteries, fabrication work, test live voltage batteries for OEM vehicles, hooking up voltage cables, testing, disassemble the battery and put it back together, cycling the battery through a life cycle through the computer, computer runs the simulations on the battery Perform physical duties involving large and heavy high voltage batteries including movement, shipping, and disposalMaintain records on work performed including data collected or analyzedMaintain and communicate findings with engineering personnel through verbal or written meansQualifications:Related work experienceThorough knowledge of complex mechanical and/or electrical concepts, including reading engineering drawingsWorking knowledge of test automation applications used in a laboratory environmentCompetence with typical office computer applications, e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OutlookStrong written and oral communication skillsPreferred:Knowledge of high voltage battery systems and safe work practicesExperience with laboratory test equipment, measuring and recording devicesRequirements:Education Requirement: High School DiplomaYears of experience: at least 2 years with some type of mechanical experience, but the manager is open to someone who is right out of school, has knowledge of basic hand tools and how to use them and they will be trainedUse of AI Technology:Unless expressly authorized in the interview/skill set validation instructions, candidates may not use AI tools or other third-party assistance during an interview or assessment to generate or provide substantive answers to interview questions.
