ETL Data Engineer - ETRM / SSRS
Houston, TX | Hybrid | Must Live in the Houston Area | 12+ Month Contract
iSphere is looking for an ETL Data Engineer who knows their way around SQL Server, SSIS, Python, and ETRM data and can step into a fast-moving energy environment without needing six months to figure out how everything connects.
This is a hands-on consulting role supporting a team that works heavily with data pipelines, data warehousing, reporting, and Energy Trading and Risk Management systems. You will be building, improving, and supporting the data flows that move information between trading, operational, reporting, and analytical platforms.
A strong Microsoft SQL Server and SSIS background is essential here. You should be comfortable designing databases, tuning queries, writing stored procedures, troubleshooting performance problems, and building ETL processes that can handle large volumes of data without becoming tomorrow morning's emergency.
You will also work with Oracle, Python, SSRS, Power BI or Tableau, and Microsoft Power Platform tools. The environment includes market data, pricing, forecasting, time-series data, and other datasets tied to energy trading and risk, so experience in ETRM or commodity trading will make a big difference.
What we need:
Expert-level Microsoft SQL Server experience, including database design, query optimization, performance tuning, stored procedures, and SSIS
Strong experience developing and maintaining SSRS reports or comparable enterprise reporting solutions
Hands-on Oracle experience, including data extraction, integration, SQL development, and performance analysis
Strong Python development experience focused on ETL, data engineering, APIs, automation, and data transformation
Experience with Pandas, NumPy, and other data-processing libraries
Experience designing and supporting data pipelines across multiple internal and external systems
Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, data quality, governance, and metadata management
Experience supporting ETRM platforms and understanding energy trading, scheduling, settlements, risk, or related market processes
Experience working with large datasets and validating, cleansing, reconciling, and integrating data from multiple sources
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Power Apps, and Power Automate will also be useful, especially if you have used them to improve reporting, automate workflows, or give the business better access to the data.
Time-series data, market data, pricing models, forecasting models, and commodity trading datasets are all big pluses.
This is a good fit for someone who likes getting into the weeds of a data problem and figuring out why the numbers do not tie before anyone starts blaming the report. You should be comfortable moving between SQL, ETL, Python, reporting, and business conversations and understand that in an energy environment, bad data can become an expensive problem pretty quickly.
If SQL Server, SSIS, Python, and ETRM data have been a major part of your world, this one should be worth a conversation.
