Job Description

Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive bid proposals for heavy civil and sitework projects. Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to assess project scope and risk. Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor scopes. Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations. Develop accurate production rates and project budgets utilizing historical cost data and market trends. Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope review sessions as required. Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives. Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations leadership during the estimating process. Prepare bid packages and assist with proposal submissions. Maintain a database of subcontractors, suppliers, and historical project costs. Support project handoff meetings upon award to ensure a seamless transition to the operations team. Monitor market conditions and material pricing to maintain estimating accuracy.

The Successful Applicant

7+ years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction, sitework, excavation, utilities, roadway, paving, or related construction sectors. Strong understanding of construction means and methods, project scheduling, and cost control principles. Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing detailed bid estimates. Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Effective communication and negotiation skills. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required. Knowledge of regional construction markets throughout New Jersey and surrounding areas is highly desirable.
