Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Blueprint Review: Analyze 3D CAD models (STEP, IGES), flat patterns, and engineering drawings to determine material specifications, tolerances, and hardware insertion needs.

  • Manufacturing Process Routing: Develop step-by-step fabrication steps including laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake forming, hardware insertion (PEMs), welding (TIG/MIG), and powder coating.

  • Tooling Assessment: Identify custom tooling requirements and press brake tonnage limits required to successfully manufacture the part.

  • Vendor Coordination: Source outside service quotes for finishing processes like plating, anodizing, heat-treating, or silkscreening.

  • Internal Collaboration: Partner with the shop floor, programming team, and engineering to ensure estimated processes match actual production capabilities.

Key Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on sheet metal fabrication experience.

  • Experience: 3+ years in a precision sheet metal fabrication, machining, or contract manufacturing environment.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo) and specialized sheet metal estimating/nesting software (such as Amada AP100).

  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to calculate cycle times, secondary operations labor, and material utilization rates.
