Estimator (Senior) Morris County, NJ
Construction Company of NJ is seeking a detail-oriented, passionate, and highly motivated Estimator to support our diverse portfolio of ground-up and commercial interior projects. The Estimator will be responsible for evaluating plans and specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, and coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, and the project management team to support competitive bidding and project budgeting. This full-time role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple estimating assignments simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the estimating process for assigned projects from early design through final bid submission
- Prepare detailed and progressive cost estimates as drawings and specifications advance
- Analyze architectural, engineering, and consultant documents to fully define scope, quantities, labor, and material costs
- Develop subcontractor bid packages, scope narratives, and comparison matrices to ensure complete and apples-to-apples pricing
- Solicit, review, level, and evaluate subcontractor proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements
- Identify constructability issues, scope gaps, and cost risks; propose alternatives and value-engineering options when appropriate
- Participate in preconstruction meetings, estimate reviews, and client discussions as needed
- Coordinate closely with project management and operations teams to ensure clear handoff of pricing assumptions, scope clarifications, and risk items
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating standards, templates, and internal processes
- Maintain and actively cultivate strong working relationships with a broad network of qualified subcontractors and vendors to drive competitive pricing, ensure reliable trade coverage, and deliver accurate, market-aligned cost intelligence.
- Support and mentor junior estimators or preconstruction staff, as applicable
