An Estimator at client is responsible for managing construction project budgets and bids, specifically focusing on federal procurement, hard bids, and Design-Build projects. The role involves producing accurate material takeoffs, collaborating with subcontractors, and ensuring seamless project handoffs to management teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Bid Management: Oversee the entire bid setup, issuance, and execution, ensuring compliance with detailed job specifications.
  • Cost Estimating: Calculate expenses for labor, materials, equipment, and buyout items.
  • Takeoffs & Analysis: Generate accurate material takeoffs from design drawings and solicit/analyze subcontractor quotations.
  • Federal Procurement Focus: Navigate Federal Government procurement methodologies, including hard bids, IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity), and task order contracts.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend pre-bid job walks, submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to architects, and assure a clean handoff of estimating data to the project management team.
  • Contract Adjustments: Evaluate contractual documents to define cost and schedule impacts for contract modifications and change orders.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience: Generally, requires 5+ years (10+ years for Senior Estimator levels) of estimating experience within the commercial construction industry.
  • Education: A bachelor s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Federal Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Federal Government procurement processes and the local Washington, D.C. area subcontractor market.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in industry-standard construction software (such as Bluebeam, Primavera, MS Project, and MS Excel) is mandatory.
  • Soft Skills: Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills are essential to defend estimates and negotiate with stakeholders.
