Job Title: Estimator Engineer Department/Division: Modern Machining Division Report to: Production Planning Manager] Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt GENERAL:Responsible for initiating quotations and providing a planned machining method with appropriate tooling and gages to meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities): Must have a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline and three years’ minimum practical production machining experience. Eight years of progressive experience in advanced manufacturing engineering may substitute for the degree requirement. Must be proficient with current computer software in the areas of manufacturing, engineering, and financial information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- Develop job estimates, to be developed into quotations, and follow-up with sales staff for feedback on Modern’s pricing, delivery, and other terms compared to the competition.
- Review and evaluate the latest technologies in tooling and capital equipment, and integrate it into the quoting process.
- Provide sales oriented technical support to customers when needed.
- Review and evaluate actual vs quoted cost on new jobs, and repeat jobs, to ensure that the estimated plan is being met.
- Audit closed orders for material and labor variances.
- Assist the Production Planning Manager in all activities of the Production Planning Department.
- Wear personal protective equipment and follow safety instructions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be able to work within a professional and office environment.
- Must be able to climb stairs occasionally.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to walk throughout plant for several hours a day.
- Must be able to operate office equipment, computer, printers, copiers, etc., which includes all physical abilities required for data input.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be able to understand, assimilate, develop, and document accurate job estimates.
- Must be able to communicate effectively by both written and oral means.
- Must be able to perceive customer needs and communications sufficiently to ensure accurate estimates.
- Must be able to comprehend complex engineering CAD models and blueprints.
