Job Description

Estimator - Commercial Construction - Charlotte will be responsible for:

  • Support the preconstruction team in developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine complete project scope.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and pricing for projects across multiple market sectors, including institutional, educational, adaptive reuse, food & beverage, and retail.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and vendor proposals.
  • Assist in developing conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and bid submissions.
  • Collaborate with project teams, owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners throughout the preconstruction process.
  • Contribute to project planning and scheduling efforts using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling software.
  • Support estimating efforts for public and private bids, CMAR projects, and Design-Build pursuits.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local subcontractors and vendors throughout North Carolina and South Carolina markets.
  • Partner closely with the Vice President of Preconstruction and leadership team to help secure new work and support successful project delivery.

The Successful Applicant

Estimator - Commercial Construction - Charlotte should have:

  • 3-5 years of construction estimating, preconstruction, project engineering, or related experience.
  • Experience estimating ground-up commercial construction projects and/or renovations and interior build-outs.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate project scope across CSI MasterFormat divisions through Division 33.
  • Recent project experience with commercial construction projects.
  • Municipal, institutional, educational, adaptive reuse, food & beverage, or retail project experience is highly valued.
  • Experience working for a general contractor preferred.
  • Subcontractor experience in concrete, steel, masonry, earthwork, or related trades will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the local North Carolina and South Carolina subcontractor and vendor market.
  • Familiarity with public and private competitive bidding processes, CMAR, and Design-Build delivery methods.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling tools.
  • Demonstrated passion for the construction industry and commitment to building strong client relationships.
  • Stable employment history preferred; candidates with multiple short tenures should be prepared to provide reasons for leaving.
  • Ability to provide a project list of successful projects completed or won within the past 3-5 years, including project type, size, and value.
