Heavy Civil Estimator

Our client specializes in the following:

  • Highway and roadway construction
  • Bridges and structures

  • Environmental and remediation work
  • Public infrastructure

Our client is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator with 5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience to join our team. They are looking for an estimator who understands how heavy civil projects are built, not simply how to put together a bid. This position reports to the Chief Estimator and will work closely with Operations, Project Management and company leadership on active pursuits.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Review plans, specifications, addenda and contract documents
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop complete estimates
  • Price labor, materials, equipment, trucking and subcontractor work
  • Solicit, analyze and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Evaluate project scope, risks, constructability and means/methods
  • Develop competitive bids, bid schedules and proposal documents
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and project/site visits
  • Coordinate with Operations and Project Management on pricing and constructability
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options
  • Meet bid deadlines and maintain accurate estimating documentation

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience
  • Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans and specifications
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimating
  • Working knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methods
  • Experience pricing self-perform work, subcontractors, materials and equipment
  • Strong understanding of construction costs and productivity
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
  • Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and attend required site visits and pre-bid meetings.
